Electrical Engineer EIT

Role Description: Huitt-Zollars has an exciting full-time opportunity for an Electrical Engineer II/III or Senior Designer. This role works with multi-disciplinary design teams in the completion of studies, development of plans and specifications for a broad range of projects. The incumbent performs design of site and facilities electrical power, communications, and interior/exterior lighting systems. Candidates must pass HZ security clearance review (criminal background check and Motor Vehicle Record check) and Federal Government base access requirements.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).

Duties:

  • Under direction of a Professional Engineer:
    • Supports the design of electrical and interior/exterior lighting systems, design documents, plans and specifications.
    • Supports multiple electrical engineering designs of new construction and renovation projects.
    • Assist in the preparation of designs, supporting design review and quality control.
    • Assist in the preparation electrical construction specifications, budgets, schedules and work plans for projects.
    • Research building codes and standards.
    • Assist with electrical system planning including electric distribution layouts, specifications of wiring systems, and analysis of loads.
    • Draft calculated lighting illumination levels and designs lighting layouts for both interior and exterior lighting projects.
    • Support the conduct of electrical studies including voltage drop/dip, short circuit and overcurrent coordination studies.
    • Assist in the preparation of various technical reports for engineering studies.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other HZ staff, contractors, and consultants and clients.
  • Coordinate with other HZ disciplines, utility companies, consulting engineers, architects, and contractors
  • Update Technical Leads and Project Managers on work progress and address potential project problems.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, trainings to stay current on trade principles, practices and new developments.
  • Review project construction submittals and shop drawings.
  • Visit construction sites, perform project construction observations and prepare punch lists. (Some travel involved).

  • Understands duties and responsibilities, possesses necessary job knowledge and technical skills, maintains job knowledge current.
  • Assist with appropriate administrative and project support tasks supporting the needs of the project team and office.
  • Complete assignments on-time, within budget, and with highest level of quality.
  • Routinely proposes and produces more effective ways to accomplish assignments.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam, and on path to obtaining Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 1-5+ years of Electrical engineering design experience.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit BIM.
  • Capable of utilizing electrical analysis software such as SKM Powertools, Easypower (or eqiv)., and lighting analysis with AGi32 or equivalent.
  • Capable of performing short circuit, voltage drop, protective device coordination.
  • Intermediate skills with spreadsheet software.
  • Capable of using BlueBeam.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 101.
  • Familiarity with industry energy standards (ASHRAE 90.1, IECC).
  • Ability to interact with clients and multi-discipline team members.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using the Unified Facilities Criteria and designing projects on federal installations preferred.
  • Works well in a team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, communicating engineering information clearly and concisely.
  • Must pass HZ security clearance review and pass Federal Government base access requirements.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Some travel, and overnight travel may be required
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • The employee must be able to concentrate on details, work under deadline pressures, apply sound logic and judgment, and prioritize tasks and responsibilities
