SUMMARY
This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting and repairing plant and laboratory analytical equipment and instrumentation (gas chromatographs, moisture meters, pH meters, etc.). It is also responsible for maintaining analytical methods performed in the unit operations labs and operator training associated with these methods. Incumbents holding these positions are formally trained and experienced in electronics as well as analytical instrumentation, computers (LIMS/ATLAS/Chromeleon) and numerous analytical wet chemistry test procedures. This role works with a wide variety of instruments and analytical equipment used to support the analysis of products and plant processes. This is a 10-hour day shift position in the Instrument Maintenance section of the Main Laboratory. Callouts, weekend work, and holiday work are also a requirement of this job.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for maintaining and repairing all types of instrument systems.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and replace defective components on instrumentation.
  • Ability to read electrical, logic, and loop diagrams.
  • Troubleshooting and repair skills are essential.
  • Communicate effectively and possess good troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Perform the majority of their job functions with very little supervision.
  • Utilize statistical tools (control charts, etc.) in the course of their daily work and in accordance with ISO 9001 standards.
  • Install and develop methods for new instrumentation
  • Provides leadership to less experienced technicians.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Lab Instrument experience
  • Associate degree in electronics or industrial instrumentation or comparable training / experience.
  • Knowledge of SAP is also desirable.
  • Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office, but can be high outside. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Inside exposure includes but not limited to A/C 80% of the time. Outside exposure includes but not limited to outside elements 30% of the time. May be exposed to finished carpet, tile/linoleum and/or outside concrete or gravel. Job may require working in both closed and open quarters. Exposure to dust, fumes, and gasses are at a minimum on the inside, and can be moderate outside.
