DESCRIPTION

Under the general supervision of a Pharmacy Supervisor, the Outpatient Pharmacy Technician III is able to perform a full range of duties in a retail pharmacy setting. This position is responsible for improving medication access for UC San Diego Health Patients by investigating insurance benefits and completing the necessary work to provide the medication for the lowest possible out-of-pocket expense. They will work with pharmacists, other pharmacy colleagues, clinic staff and providers to achieve this. This position is also responsible for oversight of benefits investigation compliance and reporting any inconsistencies with that practice to the pharmacist in charge.

Depending on experience and licensure of the selected candidate, this position will be hired at the Pharm Tech II or Pharm Tech III.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (PT3).

  • Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.

  • Minimum of two-five (2-5) years of retail experience is required.

  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations.

  • Proficient computer experience and accurate data entry skills.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3+) or more years experience with outpatient pharmacy prescription billing.
  • Specialty Pharmacy Medication understanding or direct training in specialty disease states.
  • EPIC Willow Ambulatory experience.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and able to promote a justifiable position.
  • Experience communicating with provider and provider office staff.
  • 340b regulatory knowledge and background.
  • Comfortable with public speaking and able to promote a justifiable position.
  • Flexible to address any pharmacy need that may arise, especially those that are unexpected or sudden.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $64,519 - $80,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.90 - $38.41

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
