About the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion: Located in Hillcrest, the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion is a state-of-the-art, 250,000-square-foot medical facility designed to meet the growing healthcare needs of our region. Spanning six floors, this advanced facility is home to key clinical programs and offers specialized diagnostic, treatment, and surgical services. With a strong emphasis on cancer care, we are committed to delivering world-class medical services in a patient-centered environment.

DESCRIPTION

Perform all duties in a manner consistent with current laboratory safety standards, and technical work in support of and under the direction the section supervisor and/or Pathologist. Under supervision, performs technical tasks and procedures to include preventative maintenance as appropriate in section assigned. Assists in preparing/maintaining compliance as established by regulating agencies such as CAP, TJC, OSHA, and other federal and state agencies. Assist in the gross room to accession specimens, processing of surgical specimens that includes cut frozen sections, slide staining, gross dictation, selection and submission of specimens for histological, microbiological, immunological, electron microscopy and other specialized testing, photographs of specimens, transporting specimen samples, assist in collecting tissues during fine needle aspirations procedures, storage and discard of specimen samples, clean-up and maintenance of the laboratory, and ordering supplies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Associate degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution, OR Education/training equivalent to the above that includes the following: 60 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that includes six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination, AND Laboratory training including either completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, NAACLS, or other organization approved by HHS (note that this training may be included in the 60 semester hours listed above), OR at least three months of recorded laboratory training in specimen grossing.

  • Two (2) year of related high volume lab experience, preferably in a large complex healthcare organization.

  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).

  • Demonstrated high accuracy in work performance.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Grossing experience.
  • Pathology experience or clinical lab experience.
  • Specimen handling experience.
  • Reference lab specimen send out experience.
  • Bio-hazardous material shipping experience/certification.
  • Basic knowledge of FedEx/UPS send out/tracking and ability to multi-task with exceptional record keeping skills to track packages and pending orders.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $78,509 - $97,635 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $37.60 - $46.76

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
