Job Overview

The VP, National Merchandise Execution achieves sales, service, and profitability goals by developing and maximizing strategies that drive Macy's objectives. This leader ensures the outstanding execution of merchandise strategies within assigned FOBs and stores. They actively collaborate with the merchant and planning FOB management team to drive sales through compelling and differentiated merchandise assortments and execution presentations. Additionally, they establish consistency across the company in key areas of execution.

What You Will Do



  • Drive sales and enhance the customer experience by ensuring in-store merchandise execution aligns with merchant and planning vision.
  • Support the development of the assortment roadmap to position the company as the Personal Style Source.
  • Achieve sales goals through strategic long-range planning and in-season performance analysis.
  • Partner with GMM to prioritize and execute the merchant vision effectively.
  • Influence Central partners to align with store strategies and capitalize on customer-centric sales opportunities.
  • Collaborate with GMMs and Visual partners to translate merchant strategies into compelling merchandise execution plans, driving sales by FOB.
  • Lead the prototype process in partnership with Visual counterparts to ensure cohesive execution.
  • Facilitate Market meetings with Regionals, FBDs, and vendors to identify opportunities and collaborate on product development, with a focus on seasonal regional needs.
  • Serve as a key partner and liaison to RDOS, supporting the talent development of Regionals.
  • Strengthen field team capabilities in merchandising, planning, leadership, presentation, listening, and negotiation.
  • Oversee and drive national development strategies, succession planning, and colleague recognition initiatives.
  • Train teams to achieve high competency in all aspects of the business, including Omni store functions.
  • Conduct store visits with Regionals to assess and improve execution.
  • Recommend space allocation and square footage adjustments in partnership with DVPs to align with sales plans and objectives.
  • Communicate significant pre-season growth initiatives that require major space allocation adjustments.
  • Align with RDOS/DVPs to ensure major event execution, including presell events, with clear goals and presentation standards to maximize sales.
  • Partner with store teams to drive performance and enhance colleague effectiveness, including MyStylist and Gift Registry programs.
  • Analyze regional performance, share best practices, and recommend actions to optimize sales.
  • Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities.

Skills You Will Need

Merchandise Execution Strategy - Ability to translate merchant and planning strategies into in-store execution to drive sales.

Long-Range Planning & Performance Analysis - Expertise in developing strategic plans and analyzing in-season performance to achieve sales and profitability goals.

Assortment & Visual Execution - Experience in collaborating with merchant, planning, and visual partners to create compelling merchandise presentations.

Stakeholder Management - Strong ability to partner with GMMs, RDOS, Regionals, and Visual teams to align execution with corporate objectives.

Influencing & Negotiation - Ability to influence Central partners, store teams, and vendors to align on execution priorities.

Market & Vendor Relations - Experience in leading market meetings to identify regional opportunities and enhance product development.

Team Development - Proven ability to strengthen field team capabilities in merchandising, planning, leadership, and presentation.

Succession Planning & Training - Strong focus on colleague development, succession planning, and recognition initiatives.

Workflow Prioritization - Strong organizational skills to monitor and maneuver workflow efficiently.

Major Event Execution - Expertise in aligning with store leadership to ensure successful execution of presell and major sales-driving events.

Customer-Centric Approach - Ability to partner with store teams to enhance customer service through MyStylist and Gift Registry programs.

Effective Communication - Strong ability to present and communicate strategies to internal and external stakeholders at all levels.

Collaboration & Teamwork - Highly collaborative with a strong ability to function as part of a cross-functional team.

Who You Are



  • Candidates with a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. 8-10 years of related experience.
  • Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
