Engineering a world of possibilities
The Geophysics Department at the Colorado School of Mines (Mines) is recruiting for a part-time (50%) Research Support position. This person will support the Geophysics Department research-related administrative functions.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Maintain up-to-date research project budget tracking and projections for department faculty
  • Assist faculty with post-award and post-gift project management, e.g., billing, journal entries, payroll reallocations, reporting, monthly spending reports to sponsors
  • Prepare student, postdoctoral fellow and other research support contract budgeting and submittals
  • Support faculty with organizing research-focused workshops, review meetings and group events
  • Support faculty with graduate student recruiting and onboarding
  • Routinely communicate with office staff around Mines campus, including MAPS, ORA, Foundation, Career Center, etc.
  • Request purchase orders and communicate with outside contractors

Other Tasks:
  • Assist faculty and ORA with proposal preparation and project reports for funding agencies
  • Prepare travel authorizations and submit travel expense reports
  • Arrange travel for conferences and field trips, including group travel for groups of students and research personnel
  • Review procurement card reports and prepare expense reports for purchasing


Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field from an accredited institution (education can be substituted with specialized experience in higher education academic departments)
  • Two years of administration experience related to project and program management and operational oversight
  • Two years of experience with developing, monitoring and managing budgets, resource management, and reporting


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong expertise in business and management computer applications and databases
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with faculty, staff and students


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Five years in a management position that includes supervisory experience
  • Significant experience with Banner, Workday or other ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) system
  • Experience in higher education

Hourly Rate

$30.00 per hour for up to 20 hours per week
