As an Assembler , you will play a crucial role in assembling electronic components for high-stakes aerospace and defense applications. Your expertise will ensure that our products meet the highest standards of quality and reliability.


Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities

Setup and Operation:

  • Set up, and operate SMT machines (e.g., pick-and-place, stencil printers, reflow ovens) and Soltec wave solder machines for through-hole component soldering.
  • Ensure proper feeder placement, component alignment, and loading for SMT production, as well as correct wave soldering parameters (e.g., solder wave height, flux, and preheater temperature).
  • Prepare PCBs for production, verifying component placement and ensuring all materials (flux, solder, etc.) are ready before production runs.

Quality Assurance:

  • Perform visual inspections using microscopes to verify solder joints and component placements for both SMT and wave solder processes.
  • Identify and address defects such as tombstoning, bridging, solder voids, cold joints, or misaligned components.
  • Ensure compliance with quality standards, such as IPC-A-610, and document and report any quality issues.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting:

  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of SMT and wave solder machines, including solder pots, flux sprayers, conveyors, and reflow ovens.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve minor machine faults, escalating complex issues to technicians when necessary.
  • Replace worn parts and perform periodic solder pot cleaning to maintain optimal machine performance.

Process Optimization:

  • Monitor and adjust machine parameters to optimize productivity, reduce downtime, and improve yields.
  • Collaborate with process engineers to refine SMT and wave solder profiles and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in lean manufacturing and 6S activities to improve workflows and efficiency.

Production Monitoring and Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate production logs, including machine settings, material usage, process parameters, and output metrics.
  • Record and report any non-conformances, defects, or equipment malfunctions for corrective action.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to safety protocols for handling electrical equipment and hazardous materials, including lead-based solder if applicable.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental and workplace safety regulations throughout the production process.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Communicate effectively with engineers, supervisors, and team members to resolve issues and implement design changes.
  • Participate in training programs to stay updated on the latest technologies and best practices in SMT and wave soldering processes.

This position may eventually transition into a 2nd shift role after three to six months depending on business needs.


Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of experience working as an electronic assembler.
  • Ability to interpret and follow instructions from process sheets, blueprints, routing cards, and technical drawings, including ECOs, parts lists, and PRNs.
  • This position requires access to technology, materials, software or hardware that is controlled by US export laws. In order to be eligible for this position, you must be a "US Person" under US export laws (or eligible for approval under a U.S. Government export license).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in SMT machine operation, wave soldering, or electronic assembly processes.
  • J-STD-001 certification for soldering, with experience in Class 3 requirements.
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 standards for quality assurance in PCB assembly.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining SMT machines, wave solder equipment, and associated production tools.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and experience implementing process improvements in a production environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Aerospace, defense, or government contractor experience with knowledge of associated standards and processes.
  • Strong understanding of ESD procedures and the ability to maintain clean, organized workstations.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Prior experience in training or mentoring team members on SMT and wave soldering operations.

Hourly Range: Senior Assembler: $20.41 - $29.62 hourly; Principal Assembler: $22.96 - $33.32 (Lansdale, PA). Applicable pay within the posted range may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, geographical location, job function of the position, education, and experience of the successful candidate.
