Responsibilities
Summary This position is responsible for work of considerable difficulty in supervising other chaplains in a program for the religious development inmates through pastoral counseling, personal visitation, interviews, instructions and chapel services. Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervises other Chaplains and directs the religious program of the institution..
- Counsels inmates and guides them in their religious development.
- Provides pastoral counseling for relatives and staff members.
- Serves on a clinical staff and consults with them.
- Conducts religious services, administers rites and sacraments; prepares and delivers sermons.
- Confers with relatives and visiting clergy.
- May initiate local church group participation at the institution.
- Writes reports, keeps records and prepares articles.
- Speaks before professional and lay groups; supervises other chaplains
- Visits and writes letters for inmates.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- Meets the certification standards of the American Correctional Chaplains Association.
- Five (5) years of experience in providing clinical pastoral education.
- Properly credentialed to conduct religious services according to the teaching of his/her particular religion or denomination.
- Must have current ecclesiastical endorsement by appropriate religious certifying body.
- Clinical Pastoral Education or equivalent specialized training required.
- Must possess good presentation, communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with staff and public.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
