Job Overview

Serve as the lead scientist in the Advanced Materials Science group, responsible for developing protocols, establishing test methods, and conducting testing and evaluation of materials used in medical devices. Focus on delivering innovative solutions and regulatory compliance to improve product performance, enhance processing efficiency, and support the development of new advancements in the field.

Job Responsibilities and Essential Duties




  • Serve as a materials expert, assisting engineers in resolving and consulting on material-related issues.
  • Identify root causes of material failures and recommend practical solutions to address them.
  • Explore, adapt, and advance new technologies and material innovations.
  • Analyze test data to evaluate scientific theories and hypotheses.
  • Prepare and support regulatory documents to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Provide guidance and assess risks related to new materials and chemical formulations.
  • Plan, execute, document, and report lab activities to generate data that supports marketing claims for existing and new devices.
  • Develop internal procedures and standards to maintain lab investigation records, ensure quality in innovation releases, and design effective feasibility experiments.
  • Provide technical leadership to project teams, team members, and cross-functional colleagues.
  • Support special projects as needed.
  • Contribute to team efforts by completing related tasks as required.
  • Take on other responsibilities as necessary to support teams and company goals.



Minimum Requirements



  • BS, MS or PhD in Materials Sciences, Polymer Chemistry or Related Fields
  • Minimum of 3-10years of related experience (depending on education level)in medical device industry is preferred



Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Strong technical knowledge in plastic/polymer processing and material mechanics.
  • Hands-on experience with topographical, physical, and morphological characterization instruments like TGA, DSC, DMA, AFM, SEM, Rheology, FTIR, NMR, and Raman spectroscopy.
  • Familiarity with key industry standards and regulations, including ISO 17025, ISO 10993, ISO 13485, FDA regulations (21 CFR 820), and EU MDR.
  • Demonstrated research skills with a track record of peer-reviewed publications, technical presentations, and detailed technical reports.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, writing, and computer skills.
  • Industry experience in chemicals, medical devices, hygiene products, or packaging is highly preferred.
  • Strong laboratory and scientific skills; project management experience is a plus.

  • Ensures environmental consciousness and safe practices are exhibited in decisions.
  • General office work environment as well as lab environment.
  • Could require use of personal protective equipment as dictated by work area.
