McDowell Center for Children (a UHS facility):

McDowell Center is a 28-bed residential treatment facility located in Dyersburg, Tennessee, for adolescent males experiencing mental health, behavioral, and/or substance abuse issues. Our staff is made up of licensed therapists, psychiatrists, nurses, and counselors who offer 24-hour support for our patients. We provide young men with the skills they need to improve their thinking patterns, make healthier choices, and create new futures with improved outlooks and outcomes.

POSITION SUMMARY:

McDowell Center for Children is seeking a dynamic and talented Transition Coordinator. The Transition Coordinator assists students with disabilities and their families in obtaining services necessary to transition. The Transition from school to school or high school to a post-secondary setting, whether for post-secondary education, employment, or long-term support. The Transition Coordinator will develop and oversee Transition services for LifeWorks students who can benefit from a Transition Program. To facilitate the achievement of the desired post-school outcomes for students with disabilities, the Transition Coordinator will also work to create links for students to vocational and developmental training programs.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Education required. Master's Degree preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years teaching experience. Provide transition assessments (interest and career inventories, aptitudes, work skills) to all students. Ability to maintain a "Transition Profile" for each student in their folder that tracks assessments and their results with a suggested timeline of implementation. Prefer previous experience working with children with special educational needs.

Licensure/Certification: TN Elementary or Secondary Education Certification/License.

Knowledge: Prefer knowledge of effective teaching skills and educational strategies with a special education population, individual and group management skills, therapeutic relationships and processes, age specific growth and development; limit setting and crisis and behavior management.

Supervision Exercised: N/A

Environmental Conditions: Exposure to psychiatric residents who may exhibit violent/aggressive behavior. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases, blood/body fluids and other hazardous waste. Exposure to general facility environment and materials utilized in a classroom setting.
