We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Enterprise Architecture Director I on our Information Technology team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 2 days a week in the office.

As a Enterprise Architecture Director I, you will work with IT and business leaders
to develop strategies, create roadmaps, and solve unique, complex challenges
that have a broad impact across the AMA. This role leads the design and implementation
of on-premises, hybrid, and cloud-based systems and ensures that all solutions
are secure, efficient, scalable, and cost optimized. Working at the intersection of strategy,
business processes, and technology, this role provides trusted guidance and
expertise that inform key architectural decisions and support the alignment of
IT investments with business needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Solution Architecture
  • Lead and mentor application and solution architects, software developers, and IT operations engineers
  • Provide oversight of multiple technical projects, ensuring solutions meet functional and non-functional requirements
  • Partner with business leaders, product teams, and IT stakeholders to translate business needs into hybrid and cloud-native solutions
  • Develop architectural blueprints, including system integrations, data flows, and technology stacks
  • Provide strategic recommendations for refactoring and modernizing systems
  • Drive adoption of scalable, interoperable, and cost-effective solutions that fit within enterprise frameworks
IT Business Analysis & Strategic Support
  • Collaborate with business leaders to develop technology roadmaps aligned with business objectives; educate stakeholders on cloud trends, risks, and opportunities
  • Evaluate applications for redundancy and strategic value; monitor risk, cost and technical fit
  • Communicate complex architectural concepts in an accessible and actionable way for non-technical stakeholders
  • Act as a bridge between IT and business teams, ensuring solutions align with both technical feasibility and business goals
Research and Development
  • Stay ahead of emerging technologies and evaluate their potential impact
  • Lead proof-of-concept (PoC) initiatives for cloud technologies

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

Experience / Education
  1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field
  2. 10+ years of experience in IT architecture, systems design, or technology leadership
  3. 7+ years of experience in a senior architectural or technology management role
  4. Expertise in cloud solution design, enterprise systems and digital transformation initiatives; proven experience leading large-scale technology implementations
  5. Broad knowledge of data architecture, application architecture and overall IT best practices
  6. Technical certifications (e.g., TOGAF, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Solutions Architect, etc.) are highly desirable
  7. Ability to align IT architecture with long-term business objectives and market trends
  8. Expertise in developing roadmaps for digital transformation, cloud adoption, and IT modernization
  9. Strong analytical skills to assess technological needs and identify gaps
  10. Ability to influence cross-functional teams, including architects, engineers, and business stakeholders
  11. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to bridge technical and non-technical audiences
  12. Skilled at influencing executive leadership and driving consensus on architectural decisions
  13. Proven track record of mentoring and developing teams
Additional Technical Background
  1. Proficiency in AWS and/or Azure cloud platforms
  2. Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman)
  3. Strong understanding of IT domains: business architecture, security architecture, data architecture, software development, quality assurance, deployment and operations.
  4. Experience with modern architectural concepts such as microservices, API management, and DevOps practices
  5. Familiarity with emerging technologies like AI, IoT, blockchain, and machine learning The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in many of the following technologies and concepts:
  6. Amazon Web Services (AWS): EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS, DynamoDB, etc.
  7. Microsoft Azure: Virtual Machines, Azure Functions, Azure DevOps, etc.
  8. Containers and Orchestration: Docker, OpenShift, Amazon EKS, Azure AKS, etc.
  9. Serverless Computing: AWS Lambda, Azure Functions, etc.
  10. Cloud storage: AWS S3, Azure Blob, etc.
  11. Databases and Big Data: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Amazon RDS, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Snowflake, Databricks, etc.
  12. Single Sign-On (SSO): AWS Cognito, Azure AD, Tivoli Access Manager, etc.
  13. API Gateways: AWS API Gateway and/or Azure API Management
  14. Backup and Disaster Recovery: AWS Backup, Azure Site Recovery, Iron Mountain, etc.
  15. Events and Streaming: SQS, SNS, Kinesis, Azure Event Hub, Kafka, etc.
  16. Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation, etc
  17. Federated identity: SAML, OpenID Connect (OIDC), etc.
  18. DevOps and CI/CD Tools: GitHub Actions, Ansible, GitLab, Azure DevOps, AWS Code Pipeline
  19. Load balancers, Firewalls: AWS ALB/ELB, Azure Load Balancer, F5, Palo Alto, etc.
  20. CDN services: AWS CloudFront, Azure CDN, etc.
  21. Identity and Access Management (IAM): AWS IAM, Azure AD, GCP IAM.
  22. Security tools: AWS Security Hub, Azure Security Center, SIEM tools, etc.
  23. Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) configuration: AWS and/or Azure
  24. Monitoring and Observability Tools: Prometheus, Grafana, AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor and Application Insights, DataDog, etc.
  25. Cost Optimization: AWS Cost Explorer, Azure Cost Management, etc.

The salary range for this position is $160,650 - $199,002. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration, geographical location, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
