As The Principal Engineer, Technical Steward, you will be the principal subject matter expert for key manufacturing processes responsible for supporting and advancing the state-of-the-art in manufacturing technology to continuously improve product quality and manufacturing efficiency, and for working with the Product Steward and the site Validation Group to ensure that all manufacturing processes are maintained in a continuing and improving state of compliance and control. This role will be working out of the Huntington, WV, United States location

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Participates in the definition and selection of manufacturing equipment, through providing input to User Requirements (URS)as well as Change Control requirements.
  • Responsible for introducing and validating new equipment and/or complex new process projects from design through completion and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for putting effective CAPAs in place for compliance actions within the agreed timeline.
  • Maintain work in inspection readiness level and provide the necessary support in any internal or external audit in addition to providing input to and review regulatory documentation.
  • Lead quality investigations resulting from internal or post market escalations.
  • Responsible for ensuring all work adheres to HS&E requirements.
  • Responsible for supporting and improving existing processes through process monitoring, analysis, control, and the application of engineering principles.
  • Responsible to perform technical feasibility trials related to new process improvement and implementation of new manufacturing technologies.
  • Responsible for Control Plan development for ensuring Process / Yield improvements are sustained.
  • Responsible for initiating and driving cost improvement and Six Sigma / LEAN Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Responsible for project management & planning and for liaising with other departments / plants affected.
  • Responsible for project management & planning and for liaising with other departments / plants affected on process and equipment related projects.
  • Also responsible for reporting project status to management and highlighting areas of concern early.
  • Responsible for planning and managing projects to ensure effective utilization of resources and for liaising with R&D and other Alcon facilities to develop and introduce new products and processes.
  • Serve as the Deep Subject Matter Expertise for specific manufacturing process following process product / process transfer or handover from launch to commercial production.
  • Designs and controls optimization project relevant to his/her specific expertise.
  • Provides SME expertise to perform process characterizing to increase robustness and sustainability.
  • Owns the knowledge of select manufacturing process technologies locally, including any pilot scale, scale up or down, and Design of Experiments (DoE).
  • Collaborates with R&D, Cork, and global MS&T network to facilitate transfer of technical knowledge.
  • Impact on Organization Primarily focused on the Huntington manufacturing site, solving complex problems with occasional coordination of activities with R&D, Corporate, and other manufacturing sites.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +13 yrs; Assoc.+9 yrs; M.S.+2 yrs; PhD+0 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • 5 Years of Relevant Experience
  • Work hours: A shift - M-F 8AM-5PM (May need to work extra hours or on weekends depending on business requirements)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS / EXPERIENCE:

  • Knowledge of intraocular lens (IOL) characteristics/applications
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing
  • Experience with optical metrology concepts and equipment
