The Research Technician I is a full-time position that serves to assist Instructors and Principal Investigators in a research laboratory. Primary responsibilities are to assist in experiments for research projects under supervision of the project head and the PI of the laboratory. This includes collection of and accurate recording of procedures and results, maintenance of databases used in the lab, ordering necessary reagents to conduct experiments, and participation in joint upkeep of the lab. This position requires a person who has Bachelor of Science degree in molecular/cell biology or a related field, pays attention to details, can work independently after training, possesses good verbal and written communication skills, and works well as part of a team.

Education
Bachelor's degree in biological or physical sciences. Related experience a plus.

Licenses and Credentials

Experience
Prior laboratory experience, either through academic coursework, internships, or employment. 1-2 years preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Maintenance and genetic manipulation of adherent, suspension, and circulating tumor cells. PCR, Western blotting, reporter assays, molecular assays, proliferation assays, plasmid construction and/or mutagenesis, data analysis, immunofluorescence microscopy, mouse models including tissue digestion.
  • Patient sample handling (e.g. blood, tissue) and training on microfluidic devices may also be part of the work.
  • Participates in upkeep of lab, performs basic maintenance on laboratory equipment, and reports malfunctioning equipment for repair.
  • Organizes and accurately maintains written records of experimental procedures and data collection. Data may be represented as graphs, charts, tables, illustrations, slides, and narrative reports. Assist in preparation of manuscripts resulting from data generated in research projects.
  • Participate and present data at weekly lab meetings and journal clubs. Opportunity to integrate, contribute, and troubleshoot new experiments. Opportunity to have contributions published in journal articles.
