The Manager, Fixed Assets is the business owner for the Fixed Asset and Property Tax modules within the financial system. This role manages a team of professionals responsible for the management and tracking of the company's fixed assets throughout their lifecycle and the property tax filing process for the entire organization. This role also requires strong analytical skills, people management skills, knowledge of accounting principles and experience working with large volumes of fixed assets data.

What you'll be working on...



  • Oversees all processes related to the tracking, controlling, and disposal of the company's fixed assets.
  • Manages the month-end close process for fixed assets and other related activities owned by the team to ensure they are reported in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Analyzes and monitors the integration of data to and from the financial system and other integrated systems, ensuring the accurate compilation, analysis, and reporting of accounting data, both internally and externally.
  • Uses accounting concepts, experience, analytical skills, and knowledge of industry to resolve issues in effective ways and ensure that appropriate judgment is applied in determining what is considered a capital versus an operating expense.
  • Completes reviews of Construction in Progress activities to ensure (1) project spend is appropriately broken down between capital and non-capital treatment, (2) tracking the percentage completion of project to ensure assets are placed into service timely and accuracy of capital accruals, and (3) assets are placed in the appropriate asset class.
  • Maintains a robust system of controls, procedures, and forms to accurately record fixed assets.
  • Manages the preparation of audit schedules related to fixed assets and provide support to internal and external auditors during their inquiries.
  • Oversees the preparation of property appraisal information for the accuracy of tax returns and ensure compliance with relevant regulations. Develop and implement tax strategies for optimum tax savings.
  • Conducts impairment reviews for intangible assets and actively investigate any potential obsolescence of fixed assets and propose appropriate actions.
  • Manages the review and approval of balance sheet reconciliations to ensure accuracy of the fixed assets register and the calculation of depreciation for all fixed assets in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Maintains monthly large project tracker. Also, prepare and present necessary reports for the Capital Committee meetings.
  • Leads and develops direct reports with timely meaningful written and verbal feedback, and effective coaching and guidance fostering a culture of collaboration, excellence, and innovation.
  • Ensures the professional development of team members with the use of the career development plan ("plan") as accepted by the Finance Team. Meet regularly with the team to ensure plan is current and the members are progressing through the established plan.
  • Partners with the income tax team to deliver accurate and timely tax depreciation data including bonus depreciation, ensuring compliance and maximizing benefits.
  • Oversees the SOX documentation for the fixed asset area to ensure proper updates are made when process or system changes occur. Collaborate with Asst Controller/Controller to properly classify the Key controls. Perform periodic reviews of the document with process owners to (1) ensure the document reflects the current process, (2) they are aware of the controls within their area, and (3) ensure they know they are identified as the process owner.
  • Champions process enhancements in fixed assets automation, driving efficiency and accuracy.
  • Be an active member of the Company's rate cases or depreciation studies to be filed with the Public Service Commissions. The requires providing the appropriate support, perform detailed analysis, and responding to inquiries.
  • Oversees and coordinates the development of test scripts and the performance of user acceptance testing as required under the company's change management controls for the fixed asset application.
  • Maintains policies and procedures for asset capitalization, depreciation, and disposal in line with industry best practices and regulatory standards.
  • Ensures the fixed asset system appropriately gets updated with the results of rate cases and depreciation studies.
  • Ensures the interest rate used within the system to calculate the AFUDC is updated within the frequency as defined in standard operating procedures.
  • Updates asset records to reflect the Company's strategic initiatives (acquisitions and divestures).
  • Maintains and improves technical competence by keeping up to date on trends, developments, and technical authorities.



Who you are...



  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or business-related field (Information Systems, Economics, Business Administration)
  • Eight (8) years of fixed asset accounting, financial analysis, or accounting experience.
  • Highly proficient Microsoft Excel skills, including development and use of financial models, pivot tables, graphs, macros, and complex formulas.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and lead team members by building trust, credibility, and consensus.
  • Ability to work in high-volume, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple activities or sources of information.
  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and performance tuning for complex business processes and functionality.
  • Ability to identify information needed to clarify a situation, gather data from the appropriate source and skillfully pose questions to discover critical information.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively and efficiently within a team environment
  • CPA preferred.
  • Driver's license required.
