Part of the Office of Academic Affairs, the mission of the Office of Academics and Curriculum is to streamline and enhance academic processes across UT, ensuring that all academic programs meet state and University-wide standards and that they align with our institution's commitment to produce leaders equipped with a broad, foundational education. Central to our mission is administration of the University's general education courses, including the University's Core Curriculum courses and the Skills and Experience Flags as well as supporting curriculum management, assessment and evaluation.

As part of UT Austin's general education, all undergraduates are required to take flagged courses that include a focus on the following skills and experiences: Writing; Quantitative Reasoning; Global Cultures; Ethics; Independent Inquiry. Purpose

The Curriculum Management and Academic Administration unit seeks a senior academic program coordinator to coordinate general education requirements, including the Writing, Quantitative Reasoning, and Independent Inquiry Flags, which are general education requirements unique to UT Austin. This position will serve as a curriculum specialist responsible for approving, monitoring, and supporting courses carrying the Flags as well as other unit activities related to general education programming at UT Austin.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and work closely with the cross-college faculty committees. Communicate with administrators and staff in the colleges and schools to provide information about flag and general education requirements for their students.

  • Coordinate the approval and monitoring of courses satisfying the Writing, Quantitative Reasoning, and Independent Inquiry flag requirements.

  • Provide curriculum development support to faculty and departments to help them integrate Writing, Quantitative Reasoning, and Independent Inquiry requirements into new and existing courses. Provide support for including flags and learning outcomes across the curriculum.

  • Assist as needed with assessment of flag-related content in the general education curriculum. Gather, analyze and present data on capacity in courses carrying the flags across colleges and schools.

  • Develop and coordinate resources to promote effective teaching of courses, including TA training, faculty workshops, online resources, and collaboration with other campus resources. Research current scholarship on methods for effective teaching of flag-related content and skills, and synthesize and disseminate findings to make them useful for faculty.

  • Work with the advising staff to review substitution petitions for the Writing, Quantitative Reasoning, and Independent Inquiry flags.

  • Participate as a member of the Curriculum Management and Academic Administration team, assisting with unit activities, projects, and initiatives as assigned.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree with expertise related to writing, quantitative reasoning, and/or independent inquiry, and at least three years of experience teaching or working with college students OR Bachelor's degree with expertise related to writing, quantitative reasoning, and/or independent inquiry, and at least five years of experience teaching or working with college students. Outstanding written and oral communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, and experience working effectively and collaboratively with faculty. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Experience managing multiple, complex projects at once and meeting tight deadlines. Professional demeanor.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D. with expertise related to writing, quantitative reasoning, and/or independent inquiry, and experience in teaching or program administration at a university. Experience teaching about writing, quantitative reasoning, and/or independent inquiry at the college level.Experience working with faculty on curriculum development or pedagogy. Experience coordinating a program at a college or university. Demonstrated ability to think creatively about methods for improving teaching and generating enthusiasm for teaching. Experience working with cross-disciplinary programs. Experience working with students and faculty at UT Austin. General knowledge of UT course offerings and degree plans. Demonstrated ability to determine and manage priorities. Excellent research skills. Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and developing curriculum to support effective teaching of writing, quantitative reasoning, and/or independent inquiry across disciplines.

Salary Range

$65,000
