INVESTIGATOR - CFD

CHICAGO FIRE DEPARTMENT

Internal Affairs

Number of Vacancies: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $61,656.00

Successful candidates must pass a drug screen and a background investigation. Persons offered employment must pass all pre-employment exams prior to appointment.

Under supervision, investigates complaints relating to Chicago Fire Department (CFD) personnel involving allegations of official misconduct, residency violations, criminal activity or violations of the City of Chicago Personnel Rules and/or CFD rules, regulations, policies and procedures, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Investigates allegations of criminal activity, violations of administrative and personnel rules, and other matters as assigned

* Interviews complainants, witnesses, and employees

* Conducts site visits to collect physical evidence and examine records and related documents

* Performs surveillance as assigned

* Conducts background investigations as part of the pre-employment process and interviews candidates and potential employees

* Updates and maintains case management records to report on the status of assigned investigations

* Interviews complainants and all parties involved in formal complaints of sexual harassment or violence in the workplace

* Prepares detailed reports of investigations conducted, including findings

* Participates in on-call rotation responding to citizen complaints and/or incumbent drug testing pursuant to labor agreements and department general orders for fitness for duty issues or motor vehicle accidents

* Uses photographic and video equipment in the conduct of surveillance work

* Testifies in court, at arbitrations, Personnel Board hearings, or other legal proceedings

* Maintains records of investigations, correspondence, and related case documentation

* Assists Investigative specialists and supervisors in the conduct of large-scale and complex investigations

* Administers and maintains records of applicant and employee drug and alcohol test

Additional duties may be required for this position.

LOCATION: Chicago Fire Department - Internal Affairs Division

ADDRESS: 3510 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60653 / Citywide

DAYS: Monday through Friday

HOURS: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (on-call rotation)

THIS POSITION IS EXEMPT FROM THE CAREER SERVICE.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in the Social Sciences, Criminal Justice, Human Resources or a directly related field, plus one (1) year of work experience in the conduct of investigations of criminal or fraudulent activity OR one (1) year of work experience in the performance of fact-finding analyses and investigative research and reporting; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Licensure, Certification, or Other Qualifications

* A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required
