Title: 1st Rigger

Location: Pascagoula, MS

Job Summary:

The Rigger is responsible for assembling rigging to lift and move equipment or material in the shipyard. This includes selecting appropriate cables, spreader bars, plate clamps, and shackles according to the weight and size of the load to be moved. The rigger attaches shackle and cable assemblies to structural components or modules and to the crane hook and provides direction to the Mobile Equipment Operator using hand signals or a radio to ensure the safety of workers and materials being handled.

Experience, Certificates, Licenses, and Training Requirements:

* No specific education or training is required.

* Prior experience operating equipment and rigging heavy loads is beneficial.

* A forklift license may be issued internally by Signal International, as most riggers also serve as mobile equipment operators.

Rigging Assembly:

* The rigger assembles the shackles, cables, and other equipment to evenly and safely distribute the load's weight.

* Shackles may weigh between 45 to 130 pounds, depending on the load.

Physical Demands:

* Pulling or dragging equipment into place is frequent.

* Frequent bending, balancing, climbing, and pushing/pulling of suspended cables and shackles.

* Occasional standing, crouching, and kneeling.
