About the opportunity

SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Project Manager - Cultural Resources for our Rocky Mountain-Plains region, including Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, and adjacent states. This position will be based out of our Colorado Front Range offices (Denver and Fort Collins), but remote locations will also be considered for highly qualified candidates. This successful applicant will be responsible for managing client, agency, and tribal relationships, as well as winning and delivering on projects. The successful candidate will also serve as a principal investigator for our cultural resources projects. This is a regular (with benefits), full-time, salaried position. What you will accomplish

  • Manage cultural resources projects as well as cultural resources staff on multidisciplinary teams on a variety of project types across business lines and region.
  • Manage staffing, fieldwork (potentially), research, report writing, and Quality Assurance/ Quality Control (QA/QC) review.
  • Serve as a Principal Investigator for Front Range Cultural Resources Projects.
  • Cultivation of strong relationships with agency contacts, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Maintain good working relationships with state and federal agency contacts and tribes.
  • Organize and create best practices and processes.
  • Problem-solving and process improvement to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with SWCA's managers, directors, and principal investigators on technical and business development efforts throughout the company.
  • Maintain SWCA's high standard of scientific ethics and quality assurance and is motivated to identify and resolve problems in creative ways.
  • Take responsibility for team safety, developing safety plans (when applicable), and anticipating potential safety hazards.
  • Assist in the continuing development of SWCA's Cultural Resource Program and expands SWCA's professional reputation in cultural resources consulting and research throughout the Rocky Mountain-Plains region and beyond.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Master's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field
  • Meets the Secretary of the Interior's Professional Qualifications Standards in archaeology.
  • Experience with Rocky Mountains or Great Plains archaeology, or similar cultural area.
  • Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and local laws and regulations related to the management of cultural resources (NEPA, Section 106 of the NHPA)
  • At least 7 years of experience in cultural resource management (CRM) across various project types, sizes, regions, and agencies, with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • At least 2 years of supervisory experience in CRM, either in the field or office.
  • Proven experience managing CRM tasks, including budgets, scheduling, and scopes of work.
  • Demonstrated experience as a primary report author in a CRM context for diverse project types, sizes, regions, and agencies.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet SWCA's driver requirements.

Preferred

  • Has completed all aspects of a project, from pre-field tasks to final report preparation for a variety of project types and sizes, regions, and agencies.
  • Qualified for listing on permits as a principal investigator or the ability to become qualified in the near future.
  • Excellent technical writing skills with a record of completing technical reports in a timely fashion.
  • Has worked on an interdisciplinary team of subject matter experts and planners.
  • Experience and interest in business development, proposal writing, and client management.
  • Team-orientated attitude with strong leadership and mentoring skills.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Experience in marketing, business development, client management, and/or leading large proposal efforts.
  • Collaborative experience working on interdisciplinary teams of scientists and planners.
  • CPR and First Aid certification (training provided if not currently certified).
  • Adaptability to changing project needs, agency requests, and evolving priorities.
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues, clients, and agency representatives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven technical writing skills, including primary report authorship, with a strong track record of completing technical reports and projects on time.

An employee in this Denver, CO - based position can expect a salary of $77,395.50/year to $100,327.50/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
