What you'll do

We're seeking a dynamic Sr. Director Global Compensation to fuse visionary thinking with hands-on leadership, crafting and executing a compensation blueprint that resonates across borders. This role demands a master juggler, someone who thrives under the pressure of multiple priorities while maintaining laser-focus on accuracy and embodying unwavering professionalism. You'll lead teams that directly impact the lives of Viasat's employees, navigating the complexities of a rapidly expanding global landscape. Success in this role hinges on your ability to strike a delicate balance between speed, agility, operational efficiency, and strict compliance. Crucially, you'll be the strategic forecaster, anticipating future needs and driving critical decisions that propel our organization forward. The day-to-day

  • Own the Global Compensation Vision: You'll set the strategic direction and manage the implementation of all global pay programs, covering base pay, sales incentives, short-term bonuses, and long-term equity plans.
  • Drive Executive Compensation: You'll manage the entire executive compensation lifecycle, from preparing board and committee materials to ensuring accurate SEC filings, including the annual proxy statement.
  • Build a High-Performing Team: You'll lead, coach, and develop a collaborative compensation team, fostering a consultative approach that aligns with company goals and operational needs.
  • Stay Ahead of Market Trends: You'll proactively monitor internal and external compensation trends, analyze competitive market data, and identify opportunities for innovation and market leadership.
  • Manage Market Data: You'll select and oversee participation in relevant compensation surveys across all our global locations.
  • Design the Global Pay Structure: You'll define and refine our global job architecture and compensation framework.
  • Develop Incentive Plans: You'll create and manage annual and long-term incentive plan designs, including forecasting participation and usage.
  • Communicate Compensation Effectively: You'll develop and implement communication and training strategies to ensure employees understand our compensation programs and philosophy.
  • Lead the Annual Compensation Review: You'll manage the design, planning, communication, and execution of our annual compensation review process.
  • Foster Strategic Partnerships: You'll build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external consultants, and vendors to improve programs, ensure competitiveness, and enhance the employee experience.
  • Advise Executive Leadership: You'll prepare and lead discussions with executive leadership on new or revised compensation programs and plans.
  • Ensure Clear Employee Communication: You'll partner with internal communications to deliver proactive, clear, and understandable compensation information to all employees.
  • Maintain Global Compliance: You'll ensure global compliance with evolving government and legislative requirements, including pay equity, and assess their impact on our compensation practices.
  • Model Financial and Talent Impact: You'll analyze the financial and talent outcomes of current and proposed compensation programs and strategies.
  • Manage M&A Compensation Integration: You'll lead compensation due diligence, planning, and integration for mergers and acquisitions.
  • Ensure Financial Controls and Compliance: You'll maintain strong internal controls, ensure proper accounting for all compensation programs, and ensure compliance with all applicable global, federal, state, and local laws.

What you'll need

  • A proven track record of leading compensation teams and developing comprehensive compensation programs.
  • 5-10 years of experience in compensation leadership roles.
  • A bachelor's degree is preferred, but equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Creative thinker who can provide strategic thought leadership, think analytically, and solve complex issues and challenges.
  • Proven ability to lead and scale teams in a fast moving and growing global environment.
  • Ability to work both tactically and strategically to ensure business needs are met.
  • Knowledge of global compensation disciplines (i.e. broad-based programs, sales incentive plans, and long-term incentives).
  • An innate ability to translate data into insights & action, which can lead to refining programs and processes.
  • Agile, flexible, and comfortable working in a fast moving and continuously evolving global environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communications effectiveness, including verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • Strong ability to present ideas at the senior level and gain executive buy-in and alignment around key priorities.
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status is required.

What will help you on the job

  • Skill in leading and managing organizational change related to compensation programs.
  • Experience with HRIS and compensation management systems i.e. Workday is a plus.

Salary range

$212,000.00 - $302,000.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $263,500.00- $356,500.00/ annually

Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
