About This Role

The equine internship at the Veterinary Health Center is a 12-month post-DVM clinical program that provides clinical training in equine surgery, internal medicine, theriogenology and field service. The intern provides clinical service under the supervision of senior clinicians and learns through consultation with radiologists, pathologists, and other clinical and basic science specialists. The intern will participate in advanced formal training through weekly rounds with equine faculty and residents. The intern is expected to provide direct patient care, interact with clients and referring veterinarians, participate in the instruction of students, and participate in scholarly activities. Interns remain in the hospital overnight when required for care of critical cases. Emergency duty is an integral part of the program and will include ambulatory responsibilities along with aiding and participating in equine cases seen as routine cases at the VHC. Interns will not be enrolled in graduate programs and do not take graduate courses. The Equine Section is supported by 2 board certified surgeons, 2 board certified internal medicine clinicians, an emergency clinician and 2 field service/theriogenology clinicians.
