Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Thermophysical Properties Department Manager to work in our Thermophysical Properties department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials & Fuels Complex (MFC) with every Friday off. As the Manager of the Thermophysical Properties Department within the Nuclear Materials Performance Division, You will need a strong background and experience in the behavior and overall performance of thermophysical properties of LWR (light water reactor) fuels, with the ability to work or guide work in the areas of metallic fuels, other ceramic fuels, coated particle fuels, research reactor fuels, and new innovative fuel forms. Responsibilities Include:
- Drive continuous improvement in the quality and efficiency of measurement instruments, experimental processes, and data analysis related to thermophysical property measurements during post-irradiation examination.
- Technical and career mentorship for staff; acting as a technical resource for others.
- Coordinate with internal and external customers to define the use of test and examination data and to ensure that data is of the type and quality required.
- Build relationships with the commercial nuclear industry, government entities, universities, and small businesses that lead to post-irradiation examination programs of national relevance.
- Respond to requests for proposals for post irradiation examination or capability development; and maintain a strategy that guides deployment of new research areas and capabilities.
- Perform role of principal researcher, principal investigator, conducting research, development, and analysis of nuclear fuels and materials with emphasis on characterization at the engineering scale and assessment of fuel performance.
- Establish research plans and experimental design for research projects/programs that you will participate in, collect, assimilate, interpret, and report data.
- Serves as a role model by being a major or sole contributor to the generation of peer-reviewed publications, reports, proposals, and intellectual property
- Manage a team of 10 direct reports.
- You will report to the Division Director.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD in Nuclear, Science, Engineering or related discipline, and 5 years' relevant experience.
- 2 years of leadership experience.
Job Information:
The target pay range for this position is $154,733.00- $231,971.00 annually. The full pay range is $105,516.00 - $269,052.00. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
