About the Job

83% Perform experiments in the laboratory to conduct chronic stress experiments, mouse behavioral and metabolic phenotyping, injection of drugs, etc. Also conduct histological and molecular analysis of senescence as required by the experiments. An essential part of this job is to perform experiments part of an ongoing NIA project focused on the impact of social factors on health and aging. However, involvement in other experiments is also required, as needed.

12%: Support the work of the Physiology Core, in particular to conduct behavioral and metabolic characterization of mouse models under the supervision of Dr Razzoli and Dr Ariza.

5%: Communal laboratory functions: your responsibility will be to support laboratory staff to animal handling, solution preparation, mouse genotyping, and other routine laboratory practices. Analyze data. Attend weekly lab meetings.

The Bartolomucci Lab at the Integrative Biology and Physiology Department, is primarily interested in metabolic physiology, stress physiology and social determinants of health and aging. They developed a unique integrative approach to investigate the molecular physiology of obesity and chronic stress-related disease which combines behavioral and genetic models, metabolic, neuroendocrine and imaging techniques in living animals as well as sophisticated molecular and structural biology analyses of neuropeptides.
Three are the major research topics: 1) social determinants of health and aging; 2) molecular mechanisms of aging-associated diseases (senescence, DNA damage and others); 3) sympathetic and neuroendocrine regulation of energy balance and adipose organ function.
