JOB TITLE: FELLOW ENGINEER (STRUCTURAL ANALYST)
DUTIES
Apply technical experience in eld of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical
elds, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems.
Incorporate advanced technical practces and a variety of complex features such as complicated
technical requirements, applicaton of new or special materials or processes and dicult coordinaton or
oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
Provide leadership in determining solutons to complex problems and be recognized as having expertse
in a functonal area(s) of technical expertse.
Develop solutons to complex technical problems in elds of expertse.
Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertse in the
external world.
Be aware of capabilites of the work group and needs of its customers. Identfy technical programs which
can be carried out with litle guidance and take the initatve to accomplish them.
Lead task teams for developing solutons to more complex problems. Prepare plans including schedules,
budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks idented by management.
Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work
performed. Include research, development, testng, quality assurance requirements.
Communicate the results and objectves verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues,
managers and oversight groups.
Prepare reports for external publication.
DUTIES (SPECIFIC FOR THE POSITION)
Provide advanced analysis and design of all types of buildings and structures for normal and accident
loading conditions. Advanced structural analytical capabilities include dynamic seismic analysis
(response spectra and time-history), generation of in-structure seismic response spectra, tornado winds
and missile penetration and precipitation (rain, ood, snow).
Engineering services shall be provided using clients processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance
will be provided by the client.
Work Hours: Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. The client utilizes various work schedules including
5/8s (8 hour/day; ve days per week), 4/10's (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80's (9
hours/day, ve days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes company holidays. Each
workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be
utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Education: An advanced degree and experience, a Ph.D. degree and about 10 years' experience. OR A
MS degree and 12 years' experience. OR A BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience.
Educaton (Specic for the Positon): An advanced Civil Engineering degree and relevant experience, a
Ph.D. degree and about 10 years' experience. OR A MS degree and 12 years' experience. OR A BS degree
and approximately 15 years' experience.
Experience/Skills: Considered an internal expert in area of expertise. Contributes to advancing
knowledge in eld of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and
professional society presentations. Can solve complex problems in eld.
Experience/Skills (Specic for the Position): Candidate must demonstrate 8 years recent experience
in design and analysis of NRC or DOE regulated nuclear facilites. Experience with nite element
analysis is required. Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of STAAD, ANSYS or ABAQUS
or similar computer codes. Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of Natonal Codes and
Standards; specically, IBC, AISC (ASD, LRFD, & N690), ACI (318 & 349) and ASCE (4, 7 & 43).
Candidate must be able to perform eld walk-downs to document as-installed conditions.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Area Security Access: Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" security clearance. An
active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. Aer award, the selected
candidate will be notied when to apply for a clearance based on specic work assignments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are
preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (SPECIFIC FOR THE POSITION)
Current registration as a Professional Engineer in either Civil or Structural Engineering
Experience in analysis for structural response to explosion (blast/detonaton and deagraton)
Experience with DOE natural phenomena hazard (NPH), Standard 1020, criteria
