Scope of Work:

The Cathodic Protection Technician works with engineers, and consultants to design, implement and maintain For Carson's cathodic protection network.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the cathodic protection system map to include the location of all rectifies anodes within the system.
  • Provide training for technician and field crews.
  • Perform field evaluation of the cathodic system requirements to ensure proper protection of Fort Carson's gas and water distribution systems from external, internal and atmospheric corrosion.
  • Install rectifiers, anodes and the associated circuitries and take pipe-to-soil readings of each rectifier in accordance to the established schedule.
  • Troubleshoots the cathodically protected areas of the gas and water distribution system ensuring protection of piping and the infrastructures.
  • Work with the field crews to ensure proper installation of bond wire and test leads.
  • Meet the DOT compliance deadlines and requirements.
  • Utilize computer for data entry and tracking of the monitoring schedule
  • Provides support and assistance to other field crews with cathodic protection issues.
  • Utilize Fort Carson's systems to view maps and work orders.
  • Contact vendors for material quotes and prepare purchase request for supplies and materials.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Consistently produces quality products and service.
  • Completes all training within required timeline.
  • Performs all work in a safe and secure manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Sufficient education, training and /or work experience to demonstrate possession of the following knowledge, skills and abilities, which would typically be acquired through: High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years' experience as a cathodic protection technician, electrical, or chemical technician.
  • Demonstrated understanding of federal cathodic protection requirements (CFR 49 Part 192) as they relate to gas distribution systems.
  • Ability to pass drug test as mandated by the Department of Transportation (DOT) anti-drug program.
  • Ability to use specific cathodic protection survey tools such as pipe locators, oscillators, current mappers, reference half cells and soil resistivity measuring devices.
  • Ability to accurately use electrical measuring devices, such as volt meters, ohm meters, signal generator, use of basic hand tools and operate assigned equipment.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret maps, blueprints, and engineering drawings
  • Must be able to successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (Tier 1) background check.
  • Must maintain licenses and/or credentials required for this position.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a high-volume office area and interface in a positive manner with co-workers and the customer.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a team or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Performs all assigned duties in accordance with established policies, procedures, and directives.
  • Displays courtesy and skill in dealing with internal and external customers, coworkers, and management.
  • Accurately maintains and updates records to enable quick and efficient retrieval of information.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English.
  • Must possess the ability to interact well with others in a team setting ability or alone and be able to change jobs on short notice.
  • Must be capable of working under tight time constraints in a high-volume environment with multiple priorities.

  • Must be able to maintain ability to access government worksite.
  • Must have practical knowledge of worksite safety, occupational hazards, and standard safety practices.
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors environments. Some work is performed with exposure to low to loud noise level; frequent fieldwork is required with exposure to a variety of weather conditions and the external environment; tasks may require working in tightly enclosed spaces and the use of ladders or other safety equipment to gain access to hard-to-reach locations; some work is performed in crawl spaces, attics or on rooftops. Some work may require exposure to dust, particulates, unpleasant and potentially hazardous substances and high voltage.
  • Duties require on a continuous basis to sit, stand, bend, climb ladders, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and twist for varying periods in the course of work; use hands and fingers to grasp tools; make repetitive hand and body motions; twist and reach below and above shoulder; lift or carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; to communicate with co-workers using a two-way radio; use telephone, and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means; see in the normal vision range with or without correction to read computer screen, blueprints, and drafting plans; hear in the normal range with or without correction.
  • Must be able to work alternate and extended shift schedules when necessary to meet the customer's mission requirements, including weekends and holidays.
  • Must have and maintain a valid state driver's license to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must have a safe driving record, as defined by Company policy, to operate a company vehicle.
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug/alcohol test and a criminal record check.
