Organizational Unit Overview
The Division of Student Affairs comprises over 30 departments, each responsible for providing various student support, services, and educational programs accessible to the university community. Job Duties
The specific duties and responsibilities of this position include planning, leadership, and supervisory responsibility of key tasks as outlined below:
1) Oversight, Supervision and Leadership for all first points of customer service contact in Housing and Residence Life. This includes the Neighborhood Service Offices and Campus Living front desk operations.
2) Direct supervision of 2 professional staff (with indirect supervision of additional professional staff members), student staff, and other staff as assigned.
3) Coordinate Campus Living's participation and role in Admissions Open House, Orientation Pirate's Aboard & Friday/Monday Admissions events in tandem with Residence Life and ECU Dining.
4) Present and be present at a variety of recruiting activities including Pirates in Your Town.
5) Manage key Unit operations like Fire Drills, ESAs, Damage Billing, Summer School coordination with Residence Life and Fall to Spring Dismissals.
6) Support the Director of Housing Operations with parent/student calls, represent them at meetings and act on their behalf in their absence.
7) Other duties as assigned.
The administrative duties for this position include the following:

Leadership, Direction, and Oversight of first line customer service centers (20%)
The Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the Unit's two Neighborhood Service Centers and Campus Living Front Desk. This including ensuring the processes used to serve students and information provided to students is done in a manner compliant with university policies and Housing and Residence Life operating procedures. The service centers must have exemplary customer service at every point in the process and while students don't always get the answer they want, that answer is delivered in the most helpful and friendly manner possible.

Supervision (20%)
The Assistant Director is responsible for direct supervision the Assignments Coordinator and NSO manager, and indirectly the full-time staff and students who work in those areas. The Assistant Director should be familiar will their work and can back-up any of their functions.

Campus Living Recruitment Event Coordination & Attendance (26%)
Campus Living plays an important role in the recruitment and onboarding of new students. The Assistant Director works alongside the Director and AVC with those events but can anticipate being the lead coordinator of those activities. This will involve travel, weekend and after-hours work. In addition, it will involve the directing and supervision of volunteers and other campus living staff who work these events.
The Assistant Director will often be the face of Campus Living at Pirates in Your Town and other recruitment-based events and can be expected to present the Unit's message in an engaging manner.

Manage Key Unit Operations (17%)
The Assistant Director will work with EH&S and Residence Life on Fire Drill coordination. The Assistant Director will work with Disability Support Services, Residence Life and Students on accommodating ESAs in a structured efficient manner following our outlined processes. The Assistant Director will help close out resident departures by coordinating the damage billing process, including decisions related to charges, directing Campus Living staff on the assigning and removing charges and helping to coordinate the appeals process. The Assistant Director will coordinate summer allocations, work with assignments and the Residence Life team who manages day to day operations for summer school. Each Fall to Spring a number of students leave the University for Academic Reasons. The Assistant Director will work with Academic Support Services and Residence Life to have students leave when there is no opportunity to add classes, or all appeals have been exhausted.

Support & Represent the Director of Housing Operations (17%)
The Assistant Director should be prepared to act on behalf of the Director of Housing Operations, represent them and the Campus Living Unit at a wide variety of meetings, and manage calls from parents and students. The Assistant Director may at any time be asked to be available or be on-call for the Director, to support Residence Life, the Unit, or the Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Director should anticipate other administrative tasks, projects and duties being assigned on a regular basis.
Minimum Education/Experience

  • Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Leadership, Management or a closely related area.
  • A minimum of 3 years of full-time experience working in a public university setting.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

  • Experience in Housing/Residence Life.
  • Experience with complex decision making and problem solving.
  • Experience with development of policies/procedures/operations for organization or unit.
  • Experience with facilities or facilities related planning and/or projects.
  • Preferred 4 years of full-time experience.
