About This Role

The Assistant Director will directly administer and manage the university challenge course, the climbing wall facility in the Rec Complex, and the Outdoor Rental program. This person will assist in the administration of all programs conducted by the department including budgeting, personnel, facilities management, formulation and administration of rules and policies, long range planning, and evaluation. This person will be held accountable for the continued growth and improvement of all programs including the development and implementation of risk management policies and procedures. This person will provide a collaborative, team-oriented approach to the overall management process of Recreational Services. The development and continued improvement of customer service practices and staff training will be a standard expectation for this person. This person will have no outside duties or jobs that directly interfere with these responsibilities. This position will report to the Associate Director.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Requires a bachelor's degree and three to five years of relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • One year of staff supervision experience
  • One year experience with management of outdoor rental equipment
  • American Red Cross Instructor CPR/AED/First Aid and Bloodborne Pathogen
  • Climbing Wall:

    • One or more of the following:

      • One year experience in climbing wall management
      • Climbing Wall Instructor Certification (PCIA, AMGA, or CWA)
      • Climbing Wall Instructor Provider (PCIA, AMGA, or CWA)




  • Challenge Course:

    • One or more of the following:

      • One year in a leadership capacity in challenge course programming
      • ACCT Level 1 Proficiency Training or certification
      • ACCT Level 2 certification
      • ACCT Challenge Course Manager (CCM)






Other Requirements:



  • Certification in CPR/AED and First Aid
