Metallurgical Lab Technician

The Metallurgical Lab Technician will . . .

  • Prepare samples for analysis/examination and carry out a limited range of basic metallurgical services under direct supervision.
  • Perform mechanical and magnetic tests on standard equipment, such as hardness testing, tension, tensile, resistivity etc.
  • Perform metallographic tests using etchants, polishing equipment, and standard metallographic equipment.
  • Collect and record test data obtained during the evaluation.
  • This position can be located in any of the following areas: Mechanical Testing, Preparation, Metallographic Testing, Magnetic Testing or Heat Treating.
  • Perform other assignments and special projects as needed.

Requirements for the Met Lab Technician

  • Availability for 3rd shift/overnight shift required, as well as initial training on 1st shift/day shift
  • High school diploma required
  • Experience with mechanical testing, tension testing, hardness testing preferred
  • Working knowledge of MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Entry level experience with 0-1 years of relevant experience.
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to organize and prioritize tasks and make appropriate decisions.
  • Ability to conduct entry level activities and operate basic metallurgical / lab equipment.
  • Willingness to work in a fast paced, production-oriented environment with frequently changing priorities.
  • Ability to work in a production-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work with direct supervision.
  • Ability to manage one's own time to meet deadlines through guidance of others within a specific time frame.
