Position Overview
The University Testing Center Specialist facilitates academic testing accommodations for students with disabilities and make up exams per the University Excused Absence Policy for all University of Kansas students taking courses at the Lawrence campus. The specialist provides in-person front line service to students, assuring the University Test Center provides an optimized exam experience for students while maintaining the academic integrity standards of the University. This is a full-time, 12-month position, which at certain times of the academic year may include a hybrid schedule (e.g., when classes are not in session). The University Testing Specialist reports to the University Testing Center Manager.

Unit Overview:

University Academic Support Centers (UASC) is a comprehensive student support program consisting of three unique centers designed to strengthen the academic skills and written communication of students at the University of Kansas. UASC supports the University's commitment to the academic success and holistic development of students. UASC programs encourage student participation both in and out of the classroom, support academic and personal development, and link students to other campus and community resources for academic and personal support and development. University Academic Support Centers is a department within Academic Success.

Job Description
80% - Schedules and facilitates accommodated exams for qualified students with disabilities and make-up exams for all on-ground sections at KU Lawrence.
  • This includes the scheduling of in-person exams for students needing accommodations such as readers/scribes, extra time on exams, or a reduced distraction room, and scheduling of in-person exams for individual students needing a make-up exam or larger groups of make-up exams requested by faculty.
  • Coordinator also proctors exams as necessary.
  • Utilize university approved systems for exam registration and scheduling (i.e. RegisterBlast).
10% - Prepare assistive technology for students taking exams. Manage the inventory of technology used in the University Testing Center.

5% - Prepares reports on test center usage in collaboration with the University Testing Center Manager.

5% - Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree with one (1) year of professional experience or Associate's degree and one (1) year of related experience.
  2. Previous experience where attention to detail was required, as shown in application materials.
  3. Two (2) years' demonstrated experience using Microsoft (MS) Windows and MS Office applications.
  4. Excellent written communication skills, as demonstrated in application materials.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. One (1) year of full-time or two (2) years of part-time experience working with college students with disabilities by the time of appointment.
  2. Experience utilizing assistive technology such as text/screen readers, as evidenced in application materials.
  3. One (1) year of KU academic or administrative experience by the time of appointment.

Work Schedule
8a-5p M-F

This position generally works a Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00 schedule. Very occasional night or weekend work could be required (e.g., occasional student events such as Hawk Week, final exam week). At certain times of the academic year the work schedule may include a hybrid schedule (e.g., when classes are not in session).
