ABOUT THE JOB

The Tepa Companies are seeking an Electrical Engineer who will perform and oversee engineering designs of all types of electrical infrastructure and facilities for Federal government clients. Electrical Engineer will develop construction documents using AutoCAD and Revit. Designs may include facility design, working closely with other disciplines, or stand-alone electrical projects. The Electrical Engineer will help manage junior staff, including engineers and drafters. Projects may include travel, field measurements/data gathering, calculations, and CAD/BIM designing by the engineer. It is preferred that the successful candidate have experience working with at least one of the following entities: Federal, state, and local governments.

Job Functions:

  • Develop project phases: schematic, 30%, 60%, 100%, permit documents, bid documents, and construction documents.
  • Identify the requirements for emergency lighting, power distribution, and fire alarm systems for the facility type, based on the current building code.
  • Layout and circuit equipment and devices on plans based on owner requirements or requirements from other disciplines.
  • Develop power one-line diagrams or power riser diagrams, and associated panel and equipment schedules.
  • Develop luminaire layouts and lighting control diagrams.
  • Develop communications riser diagrams.
  • Produce, either hand calculations or computer modeling on electrical power systems and lighting design layouts. The hand calculations or computer modeling will focus on an understanding of circuit voltage drop, short circuit conditions, overcurrent device selective coordination, and photometric analysis on equipment with voltages ranging from zero to at least 600V.
  • Edit of the applicable sections of the MasterFormat 50-Division Specifications from Division 00 to Division 49, so that they are tailored to the applicable project.
  • Provide support during construction both in the office and the field, including site visits, review of construction submittals, and responses to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Maintain effective in-house team relations, and outside client relations as needed.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program required
  • 5+ years' experience
  • Licensed Professional Engineer or having passed the FE exam with the ability to become a licensed engineer within a year of hire
  • Previous Federal Government project design experience; preferred
  • Ability to support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of design best practices
  • Ability to solve complex problems
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prepare reports and edit proposals
  • Experience in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and Trane Trace 700
  • Existing local area industry and vendor relationships preferred but not desired
  • Job requires a background check and drug test
