About the Position The position is the leader in the MCDOT materials quality assurance program. It supervises technicians in performing field and laboratory testing and inspection of all construction materials and methodologies to ensure compliance with established standards, specifications, and provisions. This safeguards the quality and service life of roadways and bridges and enhances the safety of the transportation system. We Require
Five years of experience in engineering materials testing, including one year of lead experience High school diploma or GED A combination of post-secondary education and/orjob-related experience may substitute for theminimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis Must obtain ACI field certification within six months upon hire Must obtain ATTI field technician certification, ATTI laboratory soils/aggregate technician certification, and ATTI laboratory asphalt technician certification within six months upon hire

Supervise the MCDOT materials lab and technicians; perform supervisory activities, including scheduling the daily work activities of technical staff, employee evaluations, conducting staff meetings, training, and coaching personnel Coordinate and track material sampling and testing for the transportation improvement program projects and roadway maintenance projects Perform, review, and approve materials testing methods and calculations for accuracy and correctness; conduct construction material sampling and testing in accordance with AASHTO, ASTM, MAG, and MCDOT specifications and testing requirements Create project sampling and testing plans and prepare testing reports and summaries Revise and approve material mix designs Perform research and analysis on specialty materials and investigation on subgrade soils in accordance with instructions specified by requesting engineers Maintain the laboratory AASHTO/CCRL certifications and actively organize and participate in proficiency sample testing and on-site assessments to ensure certification status Perform maintenance, calibration, and or verification on laboratory test equipment Other job duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally, 10 - 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations.
