LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: TENNESSEE WILDLIFE RESOURCES AGENCY, WILDLIFE AND FORESTRY DIVISION, CUMBERLAND COUNTY

Working Title: Wildlife Species Technician

This is an on-site position.

Qualifications

1. have a valid motor vehicle operator's license at time of employment;
2. have an appropriate commercial driver's license/endorsement (CDL) at time of employment, or obtain within twelve months of employment.

Overview

Responsibilities

1. Identifies workplace hazards that are likely to cause damage or injury to equipment or personnel.

1. Monitors work situations to ensure safe operating conditions are implemented and maintained and adhere to OSHA/TOSHA guidelines.

1. Operates and utilizes a variety of equipment including but not limited to bulldozers, backhoes, road graders, dump trucks, tractors, dirt pans and bush hogs.
2. Coordinates machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members; observe grade stakes, or other markings when operating machines so that work can be performed to specifications.
3. Operates a tractor and trailer to load, off-load, and transport equipment between jobs.
4. Utilizes a variety of equipment and tools to move, load, off-load, haul, and stockpile dirt, refuse, and other materials; dig holes, trenches, and ditches; clean culverts; grade roads.
5. Operates machinery to perform activities such as backfilling excavations, vibrating or breaking rock or concrete, or making roads, including logging roads.
6. Drives trucks with capacities greater than 3 tons, including tractor-trailer combinations, to transport and deliver products, or other materials.
7. Drives and maneuvers equipment equipped with blades in successive passes over working areas to remove topsoil, vegetation, or rocks or to distribute and level earth or terrain.
8. Starts engines, moves throttles, turns dials, switches, or levers, or depress pedals to operate machines, such as bulldozers, excavators, road graders, dirt pan, or backhoes.
9. Drives trucks to weigh stations before and after loading and along routes to document weights and to comply with state regulations.

1. Takes actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.

1. Reads and understands operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
2. Becomes familiar with digging plans, machine capabilities and limitations, and with efficient and safe digging procedures in a given application.
3. Checks vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
4. Examines parts for damage or excessive wear.
5. Checks fuel supplies at sites to ensure adequate availability.
6. Obtains receipts or signatures for delivered goods and collect payment for services when required.
7. Collects delivery instructions from appropriate sources, verifying instructions and routes.

1. Assists with training of new personnel within the work unit, including worksite safety requirements and job site standards.

1. Adjusts hand wheels and depress pedals to control attachments, such as blades, buckets, scrapers, or swing booms.
2. Secures cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.
3. Moves materials over short distances, such as around a job site or warehouse.
4. Sets up or inspects equipment prior to operation.

1. Learns and follows safety regulations to protect the State's human resources, materiel assets, property, natural and wildlife resources, the environment, and the public.

1. Repairs and replaces damaged or worn parts.
2. Tests mechanical products and equipment after repair to ensure proper performance.
3. Cleans, lubricates, refills, adjusts, or repairs equipment/machinery/vehicles and replace parts, such as gears, bearings, hydraulic lines, or bucket teeth.

1. Maintains professional working relationships with peers, supervisors, and with upper management to ensure smooth and effective team operations.

1. Receives written or oral instructions regarding material movement or excavation.
2. Reports vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to the vehicles.

1. Maintains logs of working hours or of vehicle/equipment service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.

1. Identifies the need to create and implement specialized equipment or tools to resolve work site issues.

1. Submits all required administrative documentation and reports as scheduled, including but not limited to travel reimbursement, procurement card expenditures, etc.

1. Conducts pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure proper functioning.

1. Navigates work sites for short or long periods of time by walking, crawling, climbing, bending, stooping to access work areas under construction.

TN Driver Standards

State of Tennessee positions that may involve driving responsibilities require candidates to meet the following minimum driver qualifications:

• A valid driver's license
• For the past five years, the candidate's driver record must not have record of the following violations: driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, more than 4 moving violations.
