Overview

The Senior Ground Test Support Subject Matter Expert (SME) is responsible for providing expert-level technical guidance and hands-on support for the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of ground test facilities. This role requires deep expertise in ground test infrastructure, supporting aerospace and defense programs through advanced troubleshooting, maintenance planning, and operational enhancements.

Sierra Lobo offers customers a full range of professional and technical capabilities, including Test and Evaluation, Systems Engineering, and Advanced Technologies. We also develop products and processes related to Cryogenic Fluid and Thermal Management Systems, Densified Propellant Management Systems, and Prototype Extreme Pressure and Temperature Systems. Our customers include the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, U.S. Army, Missile Defense Agency (MDA), and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

The overall role of the Senior Ground Test Support SME is to:

    Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for ground test facility operations and maintenance.
  • Develop and implement maintenance strategies to enhance reliability and efficiency of test infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols in all ground test operations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements, leveraging industry best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, technicians, and program managers, to support mission-critical test campaigns and test infrastructure upgrades.
  • Provide mentorship and technical training to less experienced engineers and technicians.

The following describes the Senior Ground Test Support SME's responsibilities:

  • Serves as a recognized expert in ground test facility engineering, operations, and maintenance.
  • Oversees and supports the planning, execution, and evaluation of test operations.
  • Provides primary interface with Sierra Lobo, Inc. executive management and key stakeholders.
  • Develops and executes maintenance strategies for test facility infrastructure.
  • Conducts risk assessments and ensures all test operations meet safety and performance standards.
  • Leads facility improvement projects and assesses new technologies for test operations and maintenance.
  • Ensures documentation of test facility systems, procedures, and maintenance records is accurate and up to date and supports contract configuration management requirements.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, or related field); equivalent experience may be considered.
  2. Minimum of 20 years of experience in engineering and maintenance of ground test facilities and associated systems.
  3. Deep understanding of ground test operations, facility infrastructure, and associated mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
  4. Proven experience in problem-solving complex technical challenges related to test facility operations and maintenance.
  5. Strong knowledge of ASME, NFPA, OSHA, and other applicable industry standards.
  6. Hands-on experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, cryogenic, high-pressure, electrical power and/or thermal systems used in test environments.
  7. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced, high-stakes testing environment.
  8. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders, including corporate leadership and clients.
  9. Experience leading teams and mentoring junior personnel.
  10. Familiarity with data acquisition systems and test instrumentation.
  11. Ability to work effectively in a team and independently in a leadership or supporting role.
