Overview The Senior Welding Engineer is responsible for ensuring the efficient execution of welding processes within a pipeline construction environment. The candidate will also be responsible for examining, designing, and evaluating welds, planning, and documenting welding operations using relevant codes, drawings, or contracts. The Senior Welding Engineer will play a pivotal role in the integrity of a vast number of pipelines that require welds and will assist other engineers in developing of welding manuals, procedures, specifications, and bulletins to ensure conformation to the current federal, state, and local regulations. Works independently and mentors' junior engineers.
Responsibilities
Core Responsibilities
- Works as part of an interactive team within Gas ENG Welding Ctr of Excellence to design, examine, and evaluate welds as well as to plan, and document welding operations in accordance with relevant codes, or drawings.
- Investigate welding related issues to improve product performance and increase productivity.
- Develop repair procedures and assess flaws to determine the fitness-for-service of natural gas pipelines.
- Develop standards, materials, weld joint design, and welding processes.
- Develop welding process procedure qualification, supplier qualification, and product testing.
- Troubleshoot welding problems and provide corrective solutions.
- Provides assistance to other Engineering departments on subject matter.
- Performs other related tasks and assignments as required.
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience
- Master's Degree in welding engineering, material science, metallurgy or related field and 6 years of full time work experience in welding engineering, construction, or other operations area or
- Bachelor's Degree in welding engineering, material science, metallurgy or related field and 8 years of full time work experience in welding engineering, construction or other operations area.
Relevant Work Experience
- Must have minimum of 5 to 8 years full time relevant work experience in application and theory of welding engineering principles in planning, design and/or operation of the natural gas system. Required
- Must have knowledge of relevant Federal, State, local codes, API 1104, ASME Section IX, NACE, ASTM and other welding/material standards. Required
- Demonstrated ability to adhere to schedules and meet deadlines. Required
- Must have the ability to coordinate basic complex engineering projects. Required
- Proven experience in problem-solving and failure analysis. Required
- Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Required
- Interpretation of radiographs and other non-destructive testing reports. Preferred
- Ability to obtain AWS Certified Welding Engineer certification. Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
- Driver's License Required
- Other: AWS certifications (CWEng, CWI, CRI, etc) Preferred

Additional Physical Demands
- Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
- Must be able and willing to travel to attend meetings/conference as necessary on Company business.
- Must be able and willing to travel to locations within the company service territory as needed.
