Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting opportunity for a Journeyman Network Services Engineer providing support to the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC/HBD), Theater Battle Control Division. The Theater Battle Control Division manages efforts focused on developing, acquiring, fielding and sustaining programs that support worldwide communications, Battle Management, Command & Control, Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C2ISR), Tactical Air Control, Air/Ground Surveillance, Time Critical Targeting, Combat Identification, Radar Imagery, Integrated Air/Missile Defense, and Mobile/Fixed C2ISR Performance, Exploitation & Dissemination Facilities.

As the Network Services Engineer, you will perform work that applies a broad theoretical and practical knowledge of system network engineering to the full spectrum acquisition process with a focus on mission applications, support the development, acquisition, and accreditation efforts. In addition to collecting network topology information, device configurations, and cabling/infrastructure information; identifying technical requirements gaps and assisting project managers in the development of acquisitions documents; evaluating/analyzing network designs for compliance with project and cyber security requirements; performing on-site cyber security fielding verifications; advising program managers on future technologies of systems/networks; identifying/recommending replacement for equipment obsolescence issues and designing/ engineering/testing network baselines to meet current/future IA/cyber security requirements to including wired and wireless technologies, networking performance both wired and wireless system capabilities

This is a full-time role at Hanscom AFB, MA.



Responsibilities

Duties include, but not limited to:

    Conduct reviews on the program portfolio to evaluate and/or recommend alternative plans, improve systems engineering programs/processes, manage/sustain program technical baseline, and design/perform system-level tests to assure that subsystems and system performance is achieved in accordance with approved specifications
  • Prepare technical documents which define, specify, and recommend system/subsystem characteristics. Prepares management reports and conducts technical presentations for planning, implementation and corrective action using the application of engineering economy principles
  • Perform validation of systems, including the development of criteria and procedures. Analyze and/or evaluate results of major engineering systems with a concentration on end-to-end communications from sensor/source through C2 node(s) to end users
  • Provide system engineering, technical support and technical training to support programs/initiatives including, but not limited to, acquisition, development, integration, sustainment, continued evolution, deployment/fielding and installation, and operations oversight.
  • Advise and ensure high-quality work that involves the planning, analysis, design, development, testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, integration, maintenance, and/or management of networked Integrated Tactical Warning/Attack Assessment (ITW/AA) C2 systems across all levels of the mission environment (day to day through scintillation). Functions in this area may include, but are not limited to:
    • Analyzing and recommending network requirements
    • Recommending and maintaining network architecture and infrastructure
    • Analyzing network workload
    • Monitoring network capacity and performance
    • Diagnosing and resolving network problems
    • Recommending network backup and recovery procedures
    • Installing, testing, maintaining, and upgrading network operating systems software; and/or ensuring the rigorous application of information security/ cybersecurity policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of network services
    • Supporting implementation and execution of Agile software execution in concert with the Government and prime contractors.
    • Supporting and advising on the development of service-oriented architectures for software development
    • Provide life cycle network engineering support required for sustainment efforts
    • Able to understand, explain, troubleshoot, and configure networks, and network security technologies (Virtual Private Networks, Dynamic Multipoint Virtual Private Networks, Generic Routing Encapsulation, Internet Protocol Security, Media Access Control Security/Cisco TrustSec, access lists, traffic flows, Layer 2/Layer 3 separations, fragmentation), performance parameters (Quality of Service, load-balance, multi- chassis ether channel, state-full switchover, non-stop routing, non-stop forwarding, graceful restarts, Maximum Transmission Unit, policing) and networking protocols (Unicast/Multicast, Border Gateway Protocol, Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol, Intermediate System to Intermediate System, Open Shortest Path First, Real-time Transport Protocol, Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol, Spanning Tree Protocol, Multiprotocol Label Switching, Label Distribution Protocol, Voice over Internet Protocol, Simple Network Management Protocol)
    • Experience in IT networking (i.e. routing, switching, firewalls, voice and security technologies)
    • Able to analyze/evaluate/design network topologies and device configurations to ensure compliance with written requirements, best practice deployment guides, throughput, latency, security, and industry best practices, as well as articulate technical issues and solutions to the program management team
    • Creating updating, and maintaining network design diagrams in Microsoft Visio, including very specific implementation details including cables, ports, and buildings.
    • Understanding/documenting all contractor network failure identification and recovery procedures
    • Network monitoring
    • Developing repeatable methods to test network pathways for per-performance status and failure identification
    • Collecting and analyzing network operational data to estimate availability and mean time to recovery factors in existing network pathways
    • Collecting and maintaining information on each network pathway's service level agreements and POCs
    • Providing general oversight for the acquisition and configuration of a network management system across all communication pathways
    • Understanding High Assurance Internet Protocol Encryptor (HAIPE) technology and direct the acquisition, configuration, and preparation of a HAIPE remote management system
    • Understanding security boundary designs, including but not limited to Cross Domain Solutions concepts
    • Facilitating Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) engineering to implement communications pathways using new DISA Commercial Ethernet Gateway architectures
    • Assisting in acquisition of DISA point-to-point circuits.
    • Visualizing where infrastructure is lacking and what needs to be upgraded/replaced and assisting in troubleshooting issues in a systematic order when the network is in operational mode


Qualifications

Citizenship: Must be a US citizen

Minimum Required Qualifications

Clearance: Must have and be able to maintain a Secret level clearance

  • ITW/AA C2 mission expertise and be capable of applying and conveying that knowledge to other mission areas
  • Linux Red Hat and Linux security hardening experience, and Cisco Network design experience is desired

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's or Master's Degree

Years of experience: 3+ years of experience in respective technical/professional dicipline, three of which must be in the DoD
