DESCRIPTION

UC San Diego's Temporary Employment Services department is excited to announce an opportunity for an experienced Engagement Officer to develop and implement strategic initiatives that foster meaningful connections between alumni, students, and the university.

The Director, Alumni Engagement is responsible for designing and managing student and alumni engagement programs, cultivating alumni affinity groups, and strengthening alumni relationships with UC San Diego through leadership, service, advocacy, and philanthropy. This role reports to the Senior Director of Alumni Engagement and Volunteer Management and works collaboratively with development officers, Alumni Relations colleagues, and Advancement partners to enhance alumni involvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Alumni and Student Engagement:

* Develop and manage creative alumni affinity groups, including Faculty-Staff Alumni and cultural affinity groups, to foster long-term connections with UC San Diego.

* Plan, implement, and evaluate signature alumni programs such as annual reunions, the Golden Triton Induction Ceremony, and the Triton Leaders Conference.

* Facilitate mentorship programs that connect alumni with current students to provide career guidance and professional networking opportunities.

Strategic Communication & Program Development:

* Develop engaging communication tools in collaboration with Alumni and Community Engagement's Marketing and Communications team to promote programs and share key updates.

* Conceptualize and deliver large-scale engagement initiatives that inspire alumni participation.

* Serve as a key contributor to campus-wide events, including Convocation, Family Weekend, and Commencement.

Collaboration & Partnership Building:

* Work closely with UC San Diego Alumni and the Alumni Association's Board of Directors to advance alumni involvement in university initiatives.

* Partner with Advancement and campus departments to align alumni engagement with areas of interest and expertise (e.g., mentoring, regional clubs, athletics, speaking engagements, volunteer programs).

* Collaborate with the Career Center to develop career development and professional networking opportunities for alumni.

* Act as a strategic liaison between affinity groups, reunion groups, and Golden Tritons, ensuring seamless communication and engagement opportunities in career advising, mentoring, student engagement, global outreach, and industry partnerships.

  • Anticipated duration: 5 months
  • Compensation: $40.90 - $44.25 / hour, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.
  • Location: Hybrid, remote work available 2 days per week. On-site work will be at UC San Diego's main campus in La Jolla.
  • Work schedule: Mon - Fri, 8:00 - 4:30 PM.
QUALIFICATIONS

* Strong experience in alumni engagement, program development, or community outreach.

* Ability to develop innovative engagement strategies that inspire long-term alumni connections.

* Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills to work with internal and external stakeholders.

* Strong communication skills to craft compelling messaging for alumni engagement initiatives.

* Experience managing events, mentorship programs, or large-scale engagement campaigns.

* Ability to navigate complex policies and sensitive situations while maintaining strong alumni relationships.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $85,400 - $156,800 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $40.90 - $75.10

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
