Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Financial Counselor, Required Bilingual Spanish - Brooklyn.
In this role, the successful candidate The financial counselor assists qualifying individuals to apply for Medicaid, and other health insurance programs as assigned.
Job Responsibilities:
- Screens patients to determine eligibility for Medicaid or any other programs such as Child Health Plus, SSI, Public Assistance, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned by billing supervisor or billing director
- Interacts with patients/staff in a courteous manner and communicates with other departments to facilitate patient flow and/or resolve patient issues.
- Performs general office duties such as filing, answering telephones, transmitting messages, translating, typing letters and forms utilizing PC or typewriter.
- Assesses patients ability to communicate in English and assists in the provision of an interpreter, as needed.
- Contacts patients with incomplete applications to obtain any information and/or documents required, by means of communication such as telephone calls, correspondence or direct contact. Refers problem cases and/or issues to the Coordinator, as necessary.
- Fills out simplified or community applications.
- Responsible for follow-up status on all applications.
- Sets appointments for patients to return with required documentation
- Is authorized to approve prescriptions for patients that have pending Medicaid or have lost or misplaced Medicaid cards.
Additional Position Specific Responsibilities:

Set appointments for patients to return with required documentation. Responsible for follow-up status on all applications, completes NYSOH or community applications. Contacts patients with incomplete applications to obtain any information and/or documents required, by means of communication such as telephone calls, correspondence or direct contact. Refers problem cases and/or issues to the Supervisor, as necessary. Assesses patients ability to communicate in English and assists in the provision of an interpreter, as needed. Performs general office duties such as filing, answering telephones, transmitting messages, translating, typing letters and forms utilizing PC. Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum of 2 years Medicaid background. Billing background preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to manage heavy client volume. Good analytical skills. Ability to function independently.
Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $47,106.25 - $52,075.03 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
