About the Role: We are looking for a hands-on Technologist to join our Internal Ventures team developing electrochemical solutions for various markets. In this role, you will be responsible for developing an understanding of product durability while building the required testing infrastructure and implementing appropriate evaluation techniques. Your efforts will leverage a fundamental understanding of electrochemistry to further our membrane development, support IP capture, and evaluate prototypes for new application spaces. You will work closely with a cross-functional team in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial environment to rapidly iterate on developments targeting a range of markets

About Internal Ventures: Internal Ventures is comprised of individual "start-ups" that develop products and new businesses in spaces that are not currently being explored elsewhere within the Enterprise. Internal Ventures is a team within the Enterprise Center that leverages staged investments, external partnerships, and an entrepreneurial mentality to generate value for Gore.

This position will be located at our facility in Elkton, Maryland, with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.

Pay and Benefits:



  • $95,000 - $150,000 per year
  • Roles above $150k are eligible for the variable pay program each fiscal year, based on defined business performance metrics.

Responsibilities:



  • Develop, validate, and implement test methods and equipment to assess fitness for use in partnership with application engineering and New Product Development
  • Problem solve and troubleshoot technical challenges in processing, testing, or in application as they arise, driving analytical lab work when needed
  • Contribute to IP development and protection through evaluation of prototypes and involvement in IP strategy
  • Assess existing and emerging technologies that could present an opportunity or pose a threat to business objectives in collaboration with knowledgeable team members
  • Establish and advance internal and external collaborations to ensure successful achievement of milestones causal to business objectives
  • Work hands-on to envision, align, and develop existing technology platforms with current or evolving market needs for targeted enterprise objectives
  • Be comfortable working in a dynamic and goal-oriented environment with the ability to align and prioritize key work to resolve the largest uncertainties

Required Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Composite Materials, or related technical discipline, with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Master's Degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Composite Materials, or related technical discipline, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; OR
  • PhD with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience
  • Fundamental understanding of electrochemistry and ionomers in the scope of electrodialysis and water electrolysis
  • Demonstrated knowledge of material science, analytical science, and transport phenomena
  • Proven effectiveness in designing and executing investigations to determine structure-property-performance relationships and developing solutions to performance needs based on the determined relationships
  • Proven effectiveness in designing and leading investigations to validate new tools and approaches, including the efficient integration of multiple interrelated hypotheses
  • Demonstrated ability to develop project plans, negotiate and manage expectations, and influence within function and cross-functionally to successfully execute projects that involve external partners, multiple internal functions, multiple regions, and/or a high degree of uncertainty
  • Ability to identify, capture, protect, and leverage intellectual property
  • Ability to lead rapid learning cycles through the development of prototypes, testing and an occasional pivot, as needed
  • Ability to travel up to 10%



Desired Qualifications:



  • Experience with electrochemistry and ionomers in the scope of electrodialysis and/or water electrolysis
  • Experience working with fuel cell teams and projects
