Laboratory Development Technician 1 Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Laboratory Development Technician 1 position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide. Job Summary: Assists laboratory engineers and technicians with activities related to product development, design validation, and research based testing. Follows guidelines provided by laboratory engineers for conducting product design and performance tests. Assists with the assembly of prototypes, customer supplied test equipment and test specimens, test-setup and data collection efforts. Assists Fike employees not usually involved in research and development testing. Primary Responsibilities: 1. Expedites the procurement of miscellaneous parts and materials required for prototypes, product development, and design validation testing. 2. Establishes and maintains the organization and cleanliness of Laboratory/Test Site work areas to Fike-S program standards, including separation and labeling of like tools, materials and parts. Maintains suitable tools for assigned Laboratory/Test Site areas. 3. Assembles prototypes of new products and test apparatus in a timely and workmanlike manner while under the guidance of Laboratory engineers. 4. Inspects, tests and adjusts assemblies, parts and systems for compliance with specifications using hand tools and precision testing equipment. 5. Monitors ongoing testing to evaluate performance and reliability of prototypes or production models as defined by Laboratory engineers. 6. Ensures that semi-permanent test systems remain intact as other R&D efforts proceed in proximity to one another. 7. Follows up on procurement of prototypes and sample materials to support product development, design validation, and research project timelines. 8. Keeps laboratory management and engineers informed concerning work assignment conflicts. 9. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed. Performs related duties as assigned. Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk, talk, hear, sit, and use hands. The environment will be both indoor and outdoor laboratory environments. Occasional workplace hazards may occur such as combustion fumes, fugitive dust, flammable gases, and heat. The noise level is generally moderate with intermittent loud noises during testing. Proper PPE will need to be worn. Employee will need to either stand or sit for lengthy periods of time and must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Job Qualifications: REQUIRED: High School Diploma or a General Educational Development Diploma (GED). One year of relevant experience. Basic knowledge of electronic, computer hardware and software, and pneumatic systems. Strong mechanical dexterity. Must be a US Citizen and be capable of passing an ATF background check. PREFERRED: Two-year technical degree, preferably in Engineering Technology. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite. Experience in a mechanical testing environment.
