MOOG Space and Defense Group is a proven provider of high performance and reliable space-rated avionics hardware and software. Products include control and data handling, power distribution, payload interface cards, mass memory, GPS receivers, motor and actuation drivers and controllers, and onboard computing. MOOG has partnered with NASA to provide electronic solutions for the Artemis Orion Crew Capsule, Viper Lunar Rover, Satellite Laser Communications Relay, OSIRIS-REX to study asteroid composition along with complete satellite buses for the defense department.

MOOG Space and Defense Group is seeking an accomplished Senior Design Engineer.

Qualifications you will need to bring with you:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification is required.
  • You should have at least 10 years of design and development engineering experience specifically in the field of space-based electronics.
  • Your design expertise should include a minimum of 4 years of experience working with modern microprocessors / DSPs, high-speed digital logic, FPGA, memory, analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters, as well as communication links for use in space.
  • It is important that you have knowledge of board design and layout, including proficiency in using design tools.
  • You should have at least 4 years of experience with VHDL or Verilog coding specifically for space applications.
  • Experience in designing test benches and simulations using digital simulation tools such as Questa/Modelsim is required for the verification of FPGA designs.
  • You should have analysis expertise in areas such as worst case analysis, parts stress, power dissipation, timing, signal integrity, and Acceptance Test / Built-In Test coverage.

The skills that the senior design engineer should possess:

  • The engineer should have strong verbal communication skills and be proficient in generating technical documentation.
  • They should be able to develop conceptual designs and perform trade studies.
  • It is important for the designer to be able to perform design analysis that demonstrates compliance to requirements and good design practices.
  • Experience with board bring up and troubleshooting in the lab environment is necessary.
  • The designer should have experience collaborating across engineering disciplines.
  • They should contribute to the development of new electronic product requirements by consulting with customers and system engineers.
  • The ability to perform high-speed digital circuit design, including schematic capture and specifying printed circuit board design requirements (such as placement constraints, trace parameters, and routing layer constraints), is required.
  • The designer should be able to develop firmware for FPGAs that work with electronics, sensors, electro-hydraulic actuators, electromechanical components, and communication links for actuation systems or avionics equipment.
  • Conducting prototype testing, integration testing, and design verification and validation testing is part of the designer's responsibilities.
  • The designer should be able to document design, analysis, and verification results with accurate and concise reports.
  • Providing formal technical presentations to internal and external customers to support program review and business development is expected.
  • The designer should be able to specify and support the design of lab test setups.

The base salary range represents the low and high end of the Moog salary range for this position in the given work location. Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to location, experience, and performance. The range(s) listed is just one component of Moog's total compensation package for employees.
