Job Summary

Managesthe development and implementation of regulatory strategy to support CenterPoint Energy's (CNP) strategy, goals and objectives. Maintains positive relationships with regulatory bodies on a regional basis.

Essential Functions




  • Managesthe development and execution of regulatory and legislative strategies and policies that support CNP's corporate strategy, goals and objectives with the participation of the appropriate CNP groups or departments.


  • Represents CNP's position in proceedings before regulatory bodies with jurisdiction over Company rates, tariffs, terms and conditions of service.
  • Maintains positive relations with regulatory bodies.
  • Acts as a liaison with regulatory bodies and their staffs, other industry stakeholders, and counterparts at other jurisdictional utilities.
  • Represents CNP's interests in dealings with trade, industry and professional organizations.
  • Manages the planning and implementation of state legislative relations strategies. Assists with the legislative policy development, bill drafting and lobbying of state public officials on behalf of CenterPoint Energy.
  • Assists in developing and implementing grass roots projects to leverage employees' involvement in the political process.
  • Supports maintaining compliance with laws and regulations applicable to government relations activities, including lobbying and political contributions.
  • Maintains positive relationships with public officials, staff and key policy stakeholders.
  • Provides advice, counsel and consultation on key rate and regulatory matters to regional management that directly or indirectly impact CNP or its business environment.
  • Acts as a spokesperson for CNP on rate and regulatory issues before regulatory bodies and legislatures, and others when necessary or appropriate.
  • Directs, develops and supports assigned employees in the performance of their essential duties and responsibilities.




Education Description




  • Bachelor'sdegree required from an accredited college or university; post-graduate degree (e.g., MBA or JD) from an accredited college or university is preferred





Experience




  • Requiresa minimum of eight (8) years experience working for a regulated utility in the energy industry.



  • Requires a minimum of four (4) years experience leading project teams.



  • Requires a minimum of four (4) years experience in at least two of the following:




    • Creatingand maintaining relationships with regulatory bodies


    • Legal, rates, operations, sales and/or accounting experience in the energy industry
    • Rate and/or regulatory submissions
    • Direct interaction with regulatory authorities
