Job Description

General Summary:

The Imaging Director is an independent leader who applies their expertise in clinical imaging (PET/SPECT/CT/MRI) to support Vertex trials. This role, with a high impact on the drug development strategy, will support clinical trials in all stages of drug development. Develops and aligns the imaging biomarker strategy cross functionally. The incumbent is expected to independently build imaging strategies and align across functions. The incumbent will have advanced expertise and hands-on experience in at least one of the primary imaging modalities (PET/SPECT/CT/MRI). Working knowledge of other modalities and flexibility to work in any imaging modality is highly desired. The role will involve assessing the value of imaging to address the clinical trial needs, identification of the optimal imaging modality, and executing imaging in Vertex trials through internal and external partners. In addition to clinical imaging, the role will also involve developing translational imaging strategies with the goal to support Vertex trials.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide imaging-related strategic, scientific, and operational leadership to impact drug development at Vertex on multiple programs
  • Collaborate with Clinical Study Teams to ensure appropriate inclusion and execution of clinical imaging in clinical studies, including study design and protocol development in or more programs
  • Independently build the imaging biomarker strategy for Vertex programs in collaboration with the drug development teams and oversee their execution to ensure delivery of high-quality results in compliance with corporate and federal regulations
  • Collaborate with Biomarker Leads to ensure Imaging Strategy is in alignment with the overall biomarker strategy
  • Accountable for execution of imaging assessments in Vertex trials through close collaboration with clinical trial management and medical monitors to ensure delivery of high-quality results
  • Provide guidance to drug development teams about appropriate imaging modalities, and articulate the operational feasibility, advantages, and challenges of various imaging modalities
  • Collaborate closely with external preclinical imaging CROs to execute preclinical imaging studies with the goal of clinical translation to support Vertex trials
  • Perform exploratory image analysis of clinical imaging data, internally or through external collaborators, to develop novel imaging biomarkers
  • In collaboration with Head of Imaging, maintain a strong network of external imaging experts and imaging CROs to meet the imaging needs of Vertex portfolio

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Hands on experience in acquiring or analyzing imaging data in PET/SPECT/CT/MRI in clinical setting required
  • Strong understanding of GCP requirements for imaging assessments in clinical trials

Education and Experience:

  • PhD or MD/PhD with 9+ yrs. pharmaceutical industry or imaging CRO experience focused on applying clinical imaging for drug development
  • Expertise in at least one imaging modality (MRI, PET, SPECT, ultrasound, or CT) and hands-on experience in image data acquisition and analysis
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary drug development teams in pharmaceutical industry or in imaging CROs
  • Excellent networking, interpersonal, and communication skills, and ability to drive global collaborations across a matrixed organization

1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
