JOB SUMMARY:

The Translational Modeling Team in Nonclinical Development is seeking an exceptional student in pharmacology, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, or a related field. The ideal candidate will be passionate about using mathematical modeling approaches to accelerate the design and development of new therapies for patients. This internship offers the opportunity to learn and apply various modeling techniques, including PK/PD, PBPK, QSP, and pathway modeling, to enhance drug development in accordance with MIDD regulatory guidelines. Working in a dynamic and highly collaborative environment with industry leaders, the selected student will gain valuable industrial experience that will significantly boost their future career prospects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Design, implement, calibrate, validate, and document mechanistic modeling approaches to address specific MIDD questions.
  • Develop custom PBPK models for protein therapeutics, fit-for-purpose QSP models, and detailed pathway models.
  • Collaborate with scientists across different departments to ensure the proposed models provide accurate and timely solutions.
  • Present modeling results and recommendations at various departmental meetings.
  • Must be available to work 30-35 hours per week.



EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:



  • PhD student in pharmacology, chemical, mechanical or biomedical engineering, biochemistry, physics, applied mathematics, bioinformatics, scientific computing, or related field.
  • Proficiency in scientific computing and programming, with a strong preference for experience in Matlab and SimBiology.
  • Experience in developing mechanism-based mathematical models of biological systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Scientific curiosity and the ability to provide creative solutions to scientific problems.
  • Preference for prior experience with PBPK and QSP modeling workflows.
  • Must be in proximity to the Durham/RTP office - on-site presence may be required for meetings and intern program activities
