Lecturer of Aviation

Established in 1891, Elizabeth City State University is a constituent institution of The University of North Carolina. The University currently offers 27 undergraduate and 4 graduate programs of study in fields such as aviation and natural sciences, business administration, accounting, sport management, teaching and, visual and performing arts, mathematics and computer science, social sciences and other select professional and pre-professional areas. The Department of Aviation and Emergency Management is the academic unit within the School of Science, Aviation, Health and Technology at Elizabeth City State University that educates, trains students and offers degrees in three of the most dynamic programs: Aviation Science, Unmanned Aircraft Systems, and Emergency Management. Aviation and Emergency Management students have a range of programming options from which to choose. An experienced and dedicated faculty helps each student on an individual basis to choose the aviation program that best meets his/her career interests. The Aviation Science (Flight Education and Aviation Management tracks) are accredited by the Aviation Accreditation Board International ( AABI).

This position will be 100% remote.

The Department of Aviation and Emergency Management at Elizabeth City State University invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track faculty member (Assistant or Associate) in Aviation Sciences. The successful candidate will develop and deliver courses for traditional and virtual classrooms for undergraduate students in the Department.
The primary purpose of this position is to teach undergraduate level courses in the AABI accredited Aviation Science and UAS programs; engage in service to the department and university, assist in advancing the Aviation program as a global leader in the field; advise and mentor a diverse student population; develop and strengthen programmatic areas of the program; and undertake collaborative and interdisciplinary research within the department and the university.

The ability to work with a diverse group of students.

Experience teaching at college level in distance learning format.

Experience with Learning Management System (such as Canvas, Blackboard, etc.);

Preferred industry experience in the aviation or aerospace industries;

Master's degree with 1-3 years of teaching experience required. Masters degree preferred in Aviation Science or a related area. Candidate with Masters degree in other discipline must have taken a minimum of 18 hours of aviation-related graduate coursework or demonstrated work experience in the aviation field. Desirable candidate will have experience in teaching Commercial Aviation, Meteorology, Regulatory Aspects and UAS courses.
