Position Overview
The Assistant Custodial Director positions supports the Director of Custodial Services by overseeing custodial supervisors and ensuring the effective management of custodial operations across their side of the custodial department. This role involves supervisory oversight, quality assurance, and operational efficiency, with a focus on team development, process improvements, and alignment with organizational goals. The Assistant Custodial Director also partners with the Director in developing budgets, standards, and strategic processes but is not directly responsible for custodial staff supervision or detailed budget preparation.

Job Description
45% - Supervision, Training, and Quality Assurance:
- Provides oversight to custodial supervisors, who are directly responsible for the supervision of custodial staff, ensuring effective scheduling, performance reviews, and work allocation.
- Ensures custodial supervisors conduct regular quality assurance inspections, identify training needs, and develop performance improvement plans for custodial staff.
- Monitors the execution of daily work tasks, schedules, and staffing to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to established standards.
- Works closely with supervisors to identify and address issues related to cleanliness, equipment maintenance, and overall facility conditions.
20% - Collaboration on Budgeting, Standards, and Processes:
- Partners with the Director of Custodial Services in developing annual budgets, focusing on resource needs, supply procurement, and operational efficiency.
- Assists in monitoring expenditures to ensure alignment with departmental budgets and resource management strategies.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of custodial standards and procedures, ensuring consistency across all facilities.
- Recommends process improvements based on operational feedback and industry best practices.
20% - Interdepartmental Coordination and Customer Service:
- Serves as a liaison between custodial supervisors and other department leaders to ensure custodial services are aligned with broader facility needs.
- Assists in addressing escalated customer service issues related to custodial operations, collaborating with supervisors to ensure timely resolution.
- Participates in cross-departmental meetings and committees to represent custodial services and provide operational input as needed.
15% - Performance Assessment and Staff Development:
- Works with custodial supervisors to assess staff performance and identify areas for growth, providing guidance on corrective actions and development opportunities.
- Supports the Director in the development of staff training programs that promote continuous learning and professional growth.
- Reviews performance metrics to ensure custodial operations meet departmental expectations for quality and service delivery.
Position Requirements
- Ability to work in temperature extremes, both hot and cold, indoors and outdoors.
- Reach, grasp, lift, carry, and place moderately heavy loads frequently, and heavy loads occasionally (50 lbs) with or without accommodation.
- Availability to respond to after-hours emergencies as needed.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Report to work during declared periods of inclement weather if required.
- Maintain a valid driver's license throughout employment.
Required Qualifications
- HS Diploma or GED equivalency and Seven (7) years of custodial experience, with five (5) years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Work experience managing custodial operations and overseeing staff performance.
- Work experience that required excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills as evidenced by application materials.
- At least 1 year experience in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Valid driver's license by time of hire and maintain license throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a large commercial or institutional setting.
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- More than five years of supervisory/leadership experience in a custodial or facilities management role.
