Job Summary

Research Analyst II will assist Gann Spatial Ecology lab in planning, organizing, and conducting research project-related field campaigns and data analysis in support of research projects within the greater Everglades ecosystems. Lab research is landscape level dynamics of vegetation transitions in response to biotic and abiotic interactions. Researches projects are geared towards better understanding vegetation shifts in coastal landscape mosaics that are driven by changing environmental conditions including interactions of sea-level rise, management practices of freshwater restoration, fire regimes, and tropical storm events.

  • Maintains project related databases and datasets including creation of metadata.
  • Participates in research report writing.
  • Performs remote sensing data processing and mapping.
  • Plans and conducts research project related field campaigns using GNSS survey equipment.
  • Participates in developing and following workflows to ensure integrity of data samples from collection to processing to final data deliverables.
  • Participates and assists in coordination of field campaigns and data processing workflows.
  • Assists in maintaining field equipment, including survey instrumentation (GNSS and LiDAR).
  • Supervises and trains students to follow field protocols and data processing procedures.
  • Implements project-specific analytical tasks that include data processing and analysis, accuracy assessment and result reporting.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related field and two (2) years of related experience, or a Master's degree.

Departmental Requirements

Employee will be required to travel by boat, airboat and/or helicopter.

Desired Qualifications

  • Theoretical and working knowledge of RTK surveying, remote sensing, and geographic information systems (GIS).
  • R and/or Python scripting skills. GNSS survey processing software (e.g., Trimble Business Center), GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, QGIS), geometric and atmospheric correction software for remotely sensed data (e.g., ENVI).
  • Knowledge of laboratory and field QA/QC protocols for environmental sampling and analysis, laboratory safety procedures, small vessel operation, navigation, and safety.
  • Education in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field.
