DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will undertake various duties related to the transportation, installation, maintenance, and operation of the district's bridge crane across multiple districts and agencies as required. This encompasses providing support for field operations during bridge inspections and ensuring that all safety mechanisms are functional to safeguard both traffic and personnel. Your responsibilities will include driving the crane to job sites, overseeing its deployment, maintenance, and repairs, and operating it from both the topside and bucket positions. You will conduct routine preventative maintenance and operational checks, as well as coordinate scheduled garage maintenance and repairs. Furthermore, the position necessitates traveling to maintenance districts to assist staff with equipment and traffic control, promoting a safe working environment. It is essential to maintain your bridge inspection certification and perform inspection tasks as necessary, documenting your findings through notes, sketches, and reports. All activities must align with established work and time standards. Ongoing training is crucial for enhancing and maintaining technical skills, with knowledge of inspection and operations being updated through participation in seminars, meetings, and classes to ensure continued proficiency.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Schedule may be subject to change due to seasonal/operational needs

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and maintenance equipment; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:
  • All positions require an active Pennsylvania Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed or equivalent.
  • All positions require possession of an active Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations.
  • All employees in this job must obtain an active certification in the operation of trucks and crane equipment, issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, within the probationary period.
  • This position requires an active Pennsylvania Class A Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) and Manual Transmission Restriction (E) removed or equivalent.
