What Your Job Will Be Like:

The Enterprise IT Tools and Services Department is seeking a dedicated and experienced Software Systems Engineer to join our Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) team. This role is critical in ensuring secure communications and data integrity across the organization. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in PKI solutions, digital certificates, and secure email encryption, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

On any given day, you may be called on to:



  • Implement, maintain, and optimize the Sandia PKI environment and services to support organizational operations

  • Provide technical support and training to users on PKI tools and services, ensuring effective utilization and troubleshooting of issues

  • Develop and enhance PKI solutions, including the creation of user experiences and interface designs for software features and products

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute new deployments of PKI-related applications, maintaining version control, deployment, and user support

  • Conduct testing and verification of PKI solutions, ensuring they are secure, up-to-date, and aligned with organizational requirements

  • Research and evaluate new software technologies and industry trends to enhance PKI solutions.

  • Document and maintain program-specific documents, such as instructional guides and user operations handbooks

    The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.



Salary Range:

$85,100 - $164,100

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:



  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, or a related filed; or equivalent (AS + 4 years or no degree + 8 years)

  • Experience with implementing and managing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) solutions

  • Experience with Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (S/MIME) and digital certificates

  • An active DOE Q clearance, or equivalent is required to start



Qualifications We Desire:



  • Knowledge of security and compliance standards to ensure development solutions comply with organizational, federal, and industry regulations

  • Demonstrated initiative in dealing with challenging problems and implementing creative solutions

  • Experience in developing test plans and performing testing

  • Ability to document infrastructure processes and services

  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines

  • Knowledge of PKI lifecycle and certificate management

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex PKI-related issues

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of collaborating with cross-functional teams and conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Department 09762 is responsible for Production Tools, Cross Domain Solutions, Integrated Solutions, Sandia-wide Software Site/Volume Licensing, and Data Encryption at rest and in transit.
