Summary of Job Duties:Nursing faculty includes all full-time teaching faculty and part-time clinical instructors. The faculty accepts, first and foremost, the responsibility of maintaining high standards of quality nursing education. With the exception of part-time clinical instructors, each nursing faculty member is a member of the University faculty at large, with all the rights, freedoms, privileges, and responsibilities of every other faculty member. School of Nursing (SON) faculty are responsible for adhering to regulations in the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Employee Handbook and those in the SON Faculty Handbook. The position reports directly to the SON Executive Director. Evening and Weekend Full-time faculty deliver lectures, labs, and clinical during evening and weekend hours as per the class schedule. Office hour availability is also offered in the evening to meet the needs of students attending evening and weekend courses. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Hold a current unencumbered license as a registered nurse in Arkansas.
  • Hold a minimum master's degree in nursing.
  • Have experience in clinical nursing practice and collegiate nursing education.
  • Hold membership in professional organizations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Hold a doctorate in nursing or another related field.
  • Have experience in clinical nursing practice, collegiate nursing education, and administration.
  • Have expertise in alternate learning strategies (i.e., Blackboard Learning Systems) and various software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

To perform the job successfully, the following competencies are required for the essential functions of this position:

  • Faculty have met the requirements of their degrees as set forth by an accredited institution.
  • Faculty must demonstrate mastery of specific subject areas related to their professional practice and assignments.
  • Faculty must maintain current credentials in their field.
  • Possess clear and concise communication skills, multi-tasking, and organizational abilities.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adheres to course objectives and program outcomes in developing appropriate class content and objectives.
  • Assists in developing standards for nursing students' admission, progression, and graduation. Serves as a professional role model for the student.
  • Assumes responsibility for adhering to policies related to examinations and preparing test items.
  • Attends and participates in meetings as scheduled by the SON Executive Director and Dean of the College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences.
  • Collaborates with peers, the Executive Director of Nursing, and/or the Assistant Executive Director regarding curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Furnishes evidence of current CPR certification, immunizations, TB skin test, chest x-ray, or waiver on an annual basis.
  • Maintains appropriate records regarding student evaluation and progress.
  • Maintains high academic standards by adhering to standards established by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.
  • Participates in theoretical and clinical instruction as the SON Executive Director assigns.
  • Participates in academic advising and counseling.
  • Participates in the faculty, student, and program evaluation process.
  • Participates in recruitment and retention of students within the School of Nursing.
  • Uses appropriate instructional resources to facilitate student progress toward meeting objectives.

Other Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Consistently participates in scholarly and/or service activities.
  • Develop effective working relationships within the School of Nursing, College of Health, Education, and Human Sciences, UAFS, and community.
  • Maintains security and confidentiality of all records and examinations.
  • Maintains an electronic copy of all lecture materials on file in the SON.
  • Participates in professional and community activities to bring education, service, and research findings together to improve health care.
  • Participates in continuing education programs to remain current in practice.
  • Promotes the goals, objectives, and reputation of the SON with the College of Health, Education and Human Sciences, UAFS, and the community.
  • Promotes cohesiveness between faculty and students within the SON.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that fosters teamwork and provides leadership for subordinates.
  • Requires consistent on-time attendance.
  • Submits goals for the coming year by assigned due date.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Special Job Dimensions: Travel to and from clinical sites. Abilities include walking, standing for up to twelve hours, bending, reaching, turning, listening, observation, and moderate to heavy lifting (at least 50 pounds). Must be physically and emotionally able to complete all job requirements.

Salary Information:

Minimum salary of $80,000/year. Final salary commensurate with education and experience.
