Job Description

The University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) is seeking a dynamic and experienced Associate Director of Human Resources to join our HR team. This role is pivotal in providing exemplary HR leadership and services to campus stakeholders, developing and implementing HR strategies and processes, and ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and policies. The ideal candidate will have experience in talent acquisition, compensation, and office operations. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience serving as an HR partner. We are seeking a colleague who will contribute to a thriving campus community dedicated to excellence and innovation in HR practices.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Planning

  • Work closely with the CHRO to provide exemplary HR leadership and services.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies that align with the organization's goals.
  • Foster a positive work environment within the office, on campus, and with UM colleagues.
  • Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and university rules and policies; develop policies and procedures as needed.
  • Lead the UMSL HR's services in talent acquisition, onboarding, compensation, and UMSL HR office operations.
  • Represent UMSL HR on campus and UM System projects related to their responsibilities.

Policy Explanation and Training (20%)

  • Stay abreast of policies and procedures impacting responsibilities (e.g., talent acquisition, pre-boarding, onboarding, compensation, office operations, HRP to units).
  • Train UMSL HR colleagues and other stakeholders on policies and procedures.
  • Support UMSL HR colleagues with data and resources in assigned areas.

Process Oversight and Improvement

  • Ensure consistency in processing both day-to-day and ad hoc situations.
  • Coordinate with related business areas to improve efficiency.
  • Update processes to enhance effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Apply change management best practices to change efforts.

Resource Coordination

  • Implement organizational priorities in their assigned areas.
  • Impact the quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of the team and its contribution to the HR function.
  • Supervise the HR specialist.
  • Use judgment to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve day-to-day technical and operational problems.

Senior HR Partner Services

  • Provide consultative services and leadership to assigned units.
  • Manage employee relations and policy compliance.
  • Oversee talent management, compensation, and job analysis.
  • Coordinate with talent acquisition colleagues.

Other Duties as Assigned

Shift

8 am - 5 pm, Monday - Friday with occasional evenings and weekends; On-site role

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 6 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • At least two years in an HR leadership role, including supervising HR colleagues.
  • Experience working in higher education.
  • Demonstrated success in partnering closely with senior leaders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and projects effectively.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in successfully identifying, measuring, and achieving goals using data and metrics.
  • Strong knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices.
Anticipated Hiring Range

Anticipated Hiring Range: $80,000 - $100,000

Grade: GGS-12
