Substance Abuse Counselor

The Salvation Army Midtown Treatment Center located in St. Louis, Missouri, is looking for a Substance Abuse Counselor. The individual in this position is responsible for counseling clients, conducting intakes, assessments, crisis intervention, developing treatment plans, ongoing follow up counseling and treatment plan reviews, developing safety plans, group therapy and education and facilitating referrals.

This is a full-time exempt position, with the salary of $45,000 Annually.

Essential Functions

1. Maintain confidential, systematic, accurate documentation of client progress.
2. Lead group counseling and education sessions with clients daily.
3. Conduct evaluation interviews to assess the type of treatment required by the client.
4. Make referrals to Community Support Worker, Mental Health Counselor and outside agencies as needed.
5. Conduct family education sessions and/co-dependent counseling.
6. Maintain daily service activity reports, monthly veteran's assistance reports, weekly staffing reports and other reports as needed.
7. Attend weekly staff meetings, counseling team meetings, peer to peer chart review sessions, monthly in-service training sessions, and other meetings as directed.
8. Participate in related community activities as time permits.
9. Maintain positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relationships with clients, co-workers, and supervisors.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in social work or related field with two years' full-time experience in treatment or rehabilitation of substance abuse required; Alcohol, Drug or Substance Abuse Counselor certified by the Missouri Substance Abuse Counselors Certification Board; Inc. will be considered. In additions, one of the following credentials is required: QSAP, CADC, CRAADC, CCJP, CCDP, CCDP-D, LPC, LCSW or Clinical Psychologist. CPR/First Aid certification required. Must be able to demonstrate general computer, strong organizational and good communication skills. Must be a team player, a self-starter, able to handle several projects at the same time and perform well with minimum supervision. Must demonstrate ability to think independently and exercise sound judgment. Requires a high level of confidentiality.

Physical and Working Conditions

Capable of performing in an office environment to include using a computer, answering phones, moving client files, etc. Most work will be indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.

Employee Status

FULL-TIME: 40 hours per week. Normal work hours will be determined by supervisor.
